Hi Sav,

Can you (or anyone else) confirm that you have the phone working with Garmin Mobile XT and the internal GPS unit? I'm looking at buying a Touch Cruise or the TyTN II and would like to use Garmin as the GPS software.

I've got Garmin XT on CD but never installed it as I got the phone from Bangkok and it only came with Asia maps. Are Garmin maps free? If so, where can I download them or can anyone email them to me?

Garmin dont do free maps as far as i know.
 
Can anyone tell me where to download the trial for Garmin XT on WM... or even the full one off the garmin site? The correct one that works with the internal GPS?
 
the Smart2go gps mapping 'seems' to work well, and it is also free, with routing, only the voice navigation is extra cost.
Anybody managed to download the full SA map with the maploader, or manually???
It works well, downloading the map portions on the go, just for the areas I need to navigate to, but it will be better to have the full ZA map, so u don't need to be connecting to the internet for the map all the time as you move.
On the other side, I'm thinking I'd rather just download the mapinfo I need as I go along, than have the huge file of full map sitting idle on the memory card most the time, rather use for music/vids/docs.
 
Sorry for the late reply, yes I got it working but it was a mission and only for trial purposes. I'm not sure when Garmin Sa will eventually release a version for the Tytn2 or any other HTC.
 
Managed to get the Smart2Go (www.smart2go.com) with the maploader to work, and downloaded the SA map. It is only 32Mb so not too big, now don't need to download the maptiles for the route on the go.
Only thing with this phone is the horrible battery life, although I spose it is normal for these type phones with the big screen, I've always only managed about 2 days out of the battery when using my smartphones a lot. Seems the GPS chows battery life... so a car charger is a must for navigating.

aaah cool, thanx... I haven't needed a car charger for yonks, didn't even know usb one's are now out, haven't been looking at the fleamarket phone stalls, will go check.

hmmm, me happy-ish... still not the perfect phone, has a few shortcomings for me like no radio, sometimes a bit slow to react, wud've liked a bigger screen, but Windows o/s works nice, for adding all kinds of apps on. suppose we all have something it misses.
But still best phone i've had sofar (most expensive :sick: at least there was no extra cash pay-in on contract)

Mostly... way better than the E90 (which I have owned), the only issue I have is the battery life still goes down while using it as a modem for my PC via USB... slowy, but it does go down, and eventually runs out.
 
Very happy with TyTN II, battery life is a problem. Wanted to get a unlocked iPhone, but glad I didn't....
Still want to sync my phone with my Mac without missingsync, anyone got idees? Or should I just pay the $20 and get it over with?

pay the boyz for their hard work ... the application actually works better than Active Sync ...

Mine lasts about 8 hours... and about 3-4 hours with VERY heavy use.

The E90's battery was WAY WAY better... probably cause I used the external screen 80% of the time.
 
My battery life average 2 and a half to 3 days but that is without 3g or gps and about 15 minutes of talktime per day and about 20 minutes of playing bubble breaker. However I disable hsdpa and 3g
 
I think once you got use to the new phone and all its gadgets you should have better battery life.

My dad got one today and we've been playing around just to get the basics worked out, contacts copied over from Nokia etc. etc.

Only let down is the fact that there is no Radio? Also the camera isnt awesome and that we dont get TomTom with it... Dont know how to use the GPS without installing tomtom (Any help would be apreciated)

Also on another subject, I wanted to know... If you mod your phone (Change seems, add patches, etc. etc.) Do you void your warranty? Not talking about the Tytn, talking about Ericsson now... Get mods so you dont have to plug-in earphones for radio to work, etc.

Thanks. All in all must say the Tytn is an impressive phone... Browser isnt all that great, not handling optimized webpages to welll (Opera Mini does a better job)

Which HTC Tytn or Tytn 2 do you old man have?
 
If you use GPS, don't expect your phone to last much more than 2 hours, but with standard use (about 20min calls a day, 10 sms's, wifi/bluetooth off) I get over 2 days.

and that we dont get TomTom with it... Dont know how to use the GPS without installing tomtom (Any help would be apreciated)
[\quote] You can install any gps software for windows mobile 6 for it to work. There is no built in software that works with the gps. Try search for "gps tuner" or "gps dash". They not mapping programs but true GPS apps that give speed, acceleration, direction, etc.
