HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

oh and the battery cover clip is the little "slider" on the bottom of the unit to the left of the usb/charger port.

Seems like my attempt at a little whit was misunderstood :) I was just pointing out that many making posts have not even touched one yet.

I'll be interested to see some feedback once they have had to carry it around for a month or two.

This is my take on it so far:

Positive features:
You can use a Garmin or TOM TOM charger on the phone.
Adjusting the text size. Great for email.

Negative features:
Display not usable in direct sun light.
Not possible to automatically disconnect form the internet after sending and receiving mail.
The Internet Explorer button is too sensitive when you touch the phone with your ear.
Poor batter life.
Crappy camera.
Call volume not as good as the Nokia.
Can't select multiple recipients without going back to the top of the contacts list.
You can't forward in different formats eg: sms as emails.
Delivery reports for SMS's don't display a name - only a phone number.
Poor micro SD card connectors. You need to eject and re-insert the card from time to time.
No software to send SMS from your PC (Such as the Nokia PC Suite)
Phone hangs from time to time on incoming calls.

Minor issues.
The keyboard is a bit "loose"
The phone keypad does not change to the same colours as you change theme. It stays HTC green.
The Today screen is not as flexible as my HP - out of the box.

Would be nice to see some feedback from other owners?

Can anyone give me a heads-up as far as the GPRS settings for the TyTYN is concerned? Vodacom says deal with Leaf - Leaf says 'GPRS settings not available' WTF!!?

Been sitting for over a week now trying to get this out of someone - anyone ...

Also any leads as to apps that are a must would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I can give you the general setting for GPRS...

Advise if this will help.
Don't know how to enter it on the above phone as I haven't had one under my hands yet...

Connection name: MTN GPRS (Doesn't make any difference.)

Data bearer: Packet Data

APN: MyMTN/Internet (any one of the two)

Username: Blank

Password: Blank

Promt Password: No

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: www.mtn.co.za (Doesn't make a difference)

IP: 196.11.240.251
Proxy Port: 8080

Hope this helps.

One Tip for all TYTN users i can give is this:
Go Start / Settings / Phone / Band
Set your Network type to anything but Auto (mine is on WCDMA)
Same goes for your GSM/UMTS band. (mine is on GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100))

The Guy gave me this tip and instantly my battery life have been improved!
Also, if its not that important for your mail to update automaticly, then disable it and do it manualy when you need to! To stop the 3G/UMTS from connecting all the time.

Got my TYtN last week sometime. Easy to set up wifi, GPRS, BT etc. Great phone, enjoying it so far. Got a program for it to synch with my which is great. Couple of gripes: screen is useless in full sunlight, delivered messages display the contacts number only. As opposed to Wallace I found the camera to be of reasonable quality, with decent functions but certainly not the best out there. Then again anyone needing better quality photo's should really not be skimping and rather just utalise a camera, surely you're just using a cellphone camera as a point and squirt anyway?

Looking for a few apps if anyone has any links.
Cheers
Bernard

Bud this isnt even the tip of the ice berg ... you gotta to luv the flexibility these devices offer ... there is an app for just about anything ... the only thing you need to do is have a bit of constraint cos you unfortunately cant have everything on the device due to space ...

Windows Mobile is set to rock this year .. New operating system is due to be released offering wicked integration with the new version of exchange .. i am getting excited thinking about it ..
I have had a sneak preview of the new Mobile OS ... it looks very nifty and some small new features thanks to the updated Adaptation Update Kit ( AKU )
