HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

yep,downloading now.

Hi sakkie, will look into it for you, but your pc should track data usage anyways on the connection it creates for the TyTn modem.

That's WM6 based?

nope.

WM5 AKU 3,

it's like an software update patch to the AKU 2.3 version to WM5 our handsets shipped with. Note, it is a ROM flash, so you WILL lose all installed stuff again.

is there a tracker that I can use for the PC as well?

Rom update

If one uses say SPB backup and then a rom update, can you restore with SPB backup or do you have to do a reinstall of all you apps?????

should work as long as you do backup from WM5 to WM5. WM6 to WM5 or vice versa will not work.

I wouldn't advise using a backup from a previous ROM version ... what i found on the old 2003 devices is if you update and restore a backup you actually push back your extended ROM ... the 2003 devices had a built-in backup utility that would pretty much create an "image" of your device. i havent used the SPB backup utility though ...

Urmm, the Guy is right. Do not restore backups between ROM versions (it's not "reccommended" according to SPB). Because of registry changes, stuff might stuff up.

I see this thread is still buzzing .. i have been browsing as much as i could but I just couldnt get to post .. the Work Virus had me by the throat ...

It looks like you boyz are having fun with all the dev going into these devices ..ROM's etc ...

yeah if you try restore PIM and messages from a previous ROM it will render messaging unusable.

the cooked version of the AKU 3.5 roms had the mobile 6.0 look and feel .. for me personally there is no huge difference between 5.0 and 6.0 ..

for me i think it should of been called wm 5.0 second edition

yes, well. The WM6 cooked roms are noticeably faster than WM5. Plus HTML email. that's aboot it afaik.

@ dotVibe
Have you noticed a gradual memory leak in your version.
In mine I noticed that my available program memory starts off at 23.3MB and slowly drops to around 18.8MB with nothing running in the background.

My version: WM6_Themed__LVSW_Radio_1.34.00.10_SPL_1.10.Oli
Any ideas?

Is that the 13-03-2007 version ?

Ok I have read this thread which took SOME time. And to be honest I am now very unsure of what is what.

I got the SMS from LEAF today telling me about the upgrade which by the looks of things, is redundant if you upgrade to WM6.

I know that this is probably lazy and I should PROBABLY reread this thread again so I understand better but it is over 1000 posts! Would one or several of the hotshots (Eg Dotvibe) give us a synopsis on STABLE (or at least not totally brand new and likely going to brick your phone if you are a noob) versions to use to upgrade to. I don't know whether to use Radio version 34 or 35 and now I see that there is a new one! And is upgrading to WM6 a good idea. Do I need the Hard SPL first thought. And in the earlier posts, it says you have to change your bootloader but this no longer seems to be necessary! AAAARRRGGGHHH!!

Plees plees help the ignorant...

Thanks a lot :-)

Basically Radio Version 34 and 35 is pretty much the same thing... no real difference

The newest XDA WM6 update is 0.20, i use it - and it's pretty stable... however i think the XDA WM6 update 0.10 is probably a little more stable.

These are BETA releases and VERY NEW.... it's a development thing from ppl who are not officially writing stuff for HTC. It works well... has neat new features etc etc.....

BUT

The official new release is the one from Leaf.co.za (with registration), it is WM5 tho - and is slightly slower than WM6.

There is talk that WM6 will be officially released to TyTN users - but not JasJam... it's the same phone... so who knows - perhaps i can just give mine to whoever has a JasJam... **shrug**

I think the best way to think of these updates... is to think of them like unix/linux operating systems... u get Suse, Ubuntu, Mandrake, Slackware, Gentoo... etc etc etc (Except for the stability) hehehe

U download whichever ones u want and works best for u...

@Connection - I'll leave the recommendations regarding which version you should go for to the likes of dotVibe who has tried a couple of Roms.
The AKU3 released today applies to WM5 only. The changes made in AKU3 are included in WM6 already and HTML mail support is only available in WM6 currently.

If you want the most stable WM5 release, AKU3 should be it. If you however like to try WM6 and are willing to live with a gripe or two, WM6 is great.
Having installed AKU 3 today, I actually find them very similar and agree with a previous comment that WM6 seems like an updated WM5 instead of a complete new version.
