HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

I know i'm taking the risk. But my options right now since my Nokia is practically useless is either another 9500 or K-Jam. The phone cost me R5500, just placed the order, so now i'm playing the waiting game.

I suppose you can't have everything I mean R5,500 is for nothing

R5.5 K is a lot of scheckels for a phone / PDA, but cheaper than Joe Soap will have to pay.

Still I will most likely cough up the dash as well if the phone does not appear in the next 2-months.

Then I will feel like a real tit when it is released the day after .............

Tytn

Hi All

FYI, we brought in 3 TYTN's amongst us here at work, from smartdevices. Total cost was R6700 ea, incl shipping and VAT.

Still getting to grips with the phone. Keyboard more usseful than I thought it would be...

Cheers

Ordered from smartdevicesdirect.com. I'd ordered a Eten M500 from them a year or so ago, and was happy with their service. Regarding shipping, ordered on a Monday morning and the package was in JHB Tuesday am. Then waited a week for TNT to get it out of customs and down to me in CPT. The joys of our SA service levels. And that was with me chasing them......

So delivery took one week.
Cheers

Mmmm .... I wonder how much more punnishment the Credit Card will take this month ?

Or should I wait for the network carrot & stick deal ?

Up to you, I'm the type of person that can't normally wait for these types of things so I would do the credit card, but that's me

So after all the processes involved in ordering my TyTn it can't be delivered because of the delay from the American supplier. So looks like i'll take the route Igeorge took and order the phone from smartdevicesdirect.com

My only question is Igeorge, were there any further charges from customs?

Thanks
Ari

Hi Ari

Nope, just VAT. I've never paid duties on anything I've brought in - projectors, cameras, motorbike parts.....

However, you do pay VAT on the full invoice, which includes the shipping cost.

Do you use a company structure with importers code etc or did you order in your personal capacity ?

Just a quick update. My TyTn arrived, had to pay R900 to customs. This phone is unbelievable. Has everything one needs, I just have to rebrainwash myself since everything I knew how to do on my Nokia 9500 doesn't apply.

Ari, I received mine recently as well. I had issues with using a USIM in the phone, eventually I did a sim swop to a 32k Sim which allowed me to connect onto the UMTS network reliably.
What is your experience with this or any other issues?

Tell us more... how does it work? what do you like/dislike about the device?
What did you end up spending on it to get it imported?

My HSDPA worked right away with my current 32K VodaCom card. I thought I may need the 64K but VodaCom said the speed depends on the device and not sim. When using the phone during everyday use I force it to select only GSM and not UMTS cos my battery drains. Otherwise total cost was round R6800. I'm loving this phone compared to my Nokia 9500. The size is great and the software available for Windows Mobile 5 is terrific. The Rom is a bit buggy so i'll just have to wait for an update, otherwise some users overseas have loaded the Imate JasJam Rom which solves some issues with a bluetooth carkit and other smaller bugs. If anyone uses the ir phone for business i'd without a second thought recommend the HTC TyTn or the Imate version being the JasJam

on the website their is an excluding and including VAT price, which do you pay?
