You can't go wrong with SanDisk, they invented the MicroSD (or Transflash, as it was originally called) form factor.
Otherwise a Toshiba or Kingston will work equally well.

Of course, if you don't mind spending some money, the best one out there is the SanDisk Ultra II 2GB MicroSD. The Ultra II cards have 10/MBps transfer rates.

upgrading your TyTn

Okay peeps, herewith "upgrading your TyTn, Lesson 1"

First off, all this info comes from the XDA developers forum. I have reposted it in a format that is step by step and simple to understand. As this is for noobs like me, pros like the Guy & D@rk Angel can safely ignore.

Note: I don't know whether this will void your warranty!!

First of, check your bootloader version. you will need v1.04. Later versions are available, but 1.04 is best because it has a bug that allows you to change the ROM.

To check your bootloader version, hold in the "ok" button on the right and the power button on the left simultaneously with pressing the soft reset on the bottom with your stylus for about 2 secs. A three colour screen will apear, stating " SPL x.xxx " if it is 1.04, you are A for away. If not:

1. download http://sithtech.net/uploads/downgrade_spl.rar

2. Connect your tytn to PC and wait until activesync completed.

3. Run M3100v3cUnlock.exe. Once you see checking device.... in DOS box and whilte screen on your tytn, close the program (Dos box) immedaitely.

4. Run ROMUpgradeUt.exe and follow the japanese wizard to complete the boot loader downgrade.

5. Reboot your tytn and then put it into bootloader mode agian, you should see SPL-1.04.

Great! :D

Lesson 2:

now check your ROM versions on the device:

start>settings>system>Device Information

The Latest ROM is 1.35.255.2
The Latest Radio is 1.21
latest bootloader is 1.09 (but 1.04 is better)
latest AKU is 2.6

My ROM seems to be up to date, but not my radio. So, coming soon : Lesson 3, update your radio stack:D

Thanks dotVIBE. Now you've got me set on getting that card, but I've been googling and cant seem to find any in S.A. Any idea who might have some ?

Nah, ebay seems to be your best bet. Bit risky, but I've mostly been allright with my purchases.

Lesson 3

Lesson 3:Updating the radio stack. This will increase your battery as well as remove some bugs like dropped calls etc.

OK, I had some difficulty with this but finally got it working.

Method 1.

Download ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Extracted_Radio_ROMs/HERM_1.21.31.10_type2_radio.rar

1. Extract the contents of the compressed file you've just downloaded
2. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
3. The Hermes screen will turn white and show "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait........."
4. If you get a "ERROR 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR", do not disconnect the device, run MaUpgradeUt_noID again.
5. The upgrading process will start and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe will end up saying "ERROR 114: Upgrade Error", but the radio ROM will be flashed anyway, don't worry about that error!
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)

Note1: Flashing the radio takes about 10 minutes, if you get the 114 error straight away redo the process again.
Note2: You need bootloader version 1.04 to upgrade your radio

If this does not work for you, pm me and i'll email method 2 to you.

:D :D :D

Lesson 4

Lesson 4: Unlocking your Extended Rom. Why? So you can update & install new funky additions to the ROM.

Download ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v2a.zip

#copy HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on to your phone.
# Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone. Wait about 1 minute.
# You should see a "SUCCESS!" message from HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe, after that soft reset your phone.
# Process is (hopefully) complete!
# If the phone requests unlock code when you put a locked SIM, the code is: 22051978.

now download ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HERMES_MountALLExtROM.cab

copy the .cab file to your phone.
run the file on your phone.

ta daa!! you now have extra space available and can uninstall network program stuff.

Skin Pack

I'm pretty sure D@rkAngel already posted this, but for ease of reference, here it is again.

Collection of 22 Skins and dialpad screens:

http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GL_Visit.asp?EntryID=478

To install skin :
copy .tsk file to device and run

Then copy the corresponding .cab file to the device and run that to get the skin's dialpad.

there ya go;)

2 Gig micro SD cards from San Disk ... i dont think the Ultra II is out here .. they did have problems with the first batch of 2 gig cards ..
it shouldnt be a problem though as these cards normally have a lifetime warrantee

Take 2 has a 2 Gig card - http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=2082474

It does not state that it is Ultra II or not. If it doesn't say it is, then it is probably not...

Thanks for the advice guys. I spent most of Sunday driving and walking around trying to find a 2 gig card. One place had a 1 gig Sandisk for R360 or so which seemed pretty good. I eventually found a 2 gig Sandisk card at a Vodashop costing R1219.00. It did seem expensive but I bought it anyways because I was suffering from the "I want it now" syndrome...
