HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Hi guys,

I am also very confused.

Would appreciate if one of you guys could give us a current "how to" on what to do.

I would like to get WM6, but do not know what to do....

I think there is too much info out there. The more I read, the more confused I get.

Please help!

My specs:
HTC Tytn
Rom version: 1.35.255.2
Rom date: 11/14/06
Radio version: 1.18.00.10
Protocol version: 32.55.7018.01H

Heya Guys.

As we have a few new guys around, I'll run through the procedures again. Unfortunately today is a busy day for me, so what I don't get to today, I'll get to tomorrow.

First, you can start downloading.

If you want the most stable ROM, get the AKU3 from leaf, or here.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TH86TNQB

For me, the best of the WM6 ROMs out there is currently Black Edition 1.1
It has the best combination of speed, stability and add on programs. find it here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/acudw7
add ons: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35446&d=1173963805 , http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35484&d=1174004793 , http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35541&d=1174100357

You should know that WM6 ROM cooking as at a height right now. Black edition 1.2 will be released before the end of the week, and Kyphur's XDA Live 0.30 by the end of the month. So keep watching here.

The Latest Radio stack is v.1.38.00.10.
This stack is embedded in the AKU3 ROM, so no need to do a separate update if you are loading that ROM. Find Radio 1.38 here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Cooked_ROMs/HERM_RADIO_1.38.00.10_Only_SSPL.rar

First off : Unlock the phone.

This is done so that you can flash new ROMs without phone security parameters stuffing up the process.
Copy CID unlocker to your phone, and run it from the phone itself. You can copy it anywhere, it'll work:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3.zip

Now, install Olipro HARD-SPL Bootloader to the phone. This enables the phone to boot up past all bootloader security functions. This means that if you have a bad flash, you can still load another ROM over the current bad one, so saving the phone from bricking. Unzip and run attached file from your PC while activesync is connected to your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35136&d=1173326890

Get activesync 4.5 from the microsoft. Required for WM6
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...34-6f7f-404d-a04b-dc09f8141141&DisplayLang=en

Once the phone is unlocked, make sure you copy all the data on the phone to a backup folder on the PC. Sync everything. You will lose all sms's, emails, anything not synced to the PC.

For AKU3, just connect your phone and run the exe.

For WM6:

Now, connect your phone to the PC and wait until activesync is connected(BTW, use XP, not Vista, for this).

Run the Radio ROM exe File. Follow instructions till done.

Once the phone has rebooted, connect in activesync again.
Run the WM6 exe file, follow instructions.

Ta daa, WM6 installed.

Now you have to re setup your internet connections.

Now Setup your MMS: (for MTN only, sorry)

Under “my work network” select "manage existing connections"
If there is no “manage existing connections” skip the next step
-hold down your stylus on each of the existing connections and choose delete. Press on “ok”
-select “add new modem connection” (under my work network)
-name: mtn mms
-select a modem: Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)

-next
-Access point name: myMTN
-next
-user name : mtnmms
-password : mtnmms
-leave domain blank and click finish
-click “ok”
-now under "my work network" click "manage existing connections"
-choose the "proxy settings tab"
-there are 2 check boxes here. Make sure that the first one (this network connects to the internet) IS ticked, and the second one (this network uses a proxy...) is NOT ticked.
-click "ok" and exit settings
Now go to start then messaging
-there is a drop down box at the top left that should say “inbox or outbox” or what ever you were last viewing
-click on this drop down and choose MMS
-menu
-Tools
-options
choose "accounts" (tab at the bottom)
-click on "MMS" in the box
-tick “retrieve messages immediately”
-Untick “download on home network only”
-tick “save sent messages”
-Untick “reject all messages”
-click server (tab at the bottom)
-click new
-server name: MMS MTN
-gateway: 196.11.240.241
-port number: 9201
-sever address: http://mms.mtn.co.za/mms/wapenc
-connect via: MY WORK NETWORK
-sending size limitation: 250K
-WAP version: WAP 1.2
-click “ok”
-now, while "MMS MTN" is highlighted, click on "set as default"
-If there are other servers (not mms MTN) in the list hold down your stylus on each one and select "delete".
-Send your self a test mms and see if it sends and receives it.
-also, test your internet capabilities by running internet explorer and browsing a page (eg. www.google.co.za)

Note:

a major source of instability in these new ROMs can be attributed to SPB programs. Even in the WM5 AKU 3 ROM. SPB pocket plus and mobile shell are usually the offenders.
Now, Ive used Mobile shell, and for some people it causes problems, for others it does'nt. It differes from person to person.

A function I miss from my Nokia. The Silence option when someone is calling you. Currently the TyTN (xda 0.20.0) has the Ignore feature which sends the caller straight to voicemail. I would like a Silence feature which would have the phone continue to ring on the caller's side, but be silent on mine.

I've also noticed that at times when I press Call/Talk, it will almost always end the call right then as if it is not connecting. I have a suspicion that this might be linked to it syncing to my e-mail addresses or server. I think this because it sometimes happens with the signal on full. I can't remember whether someone had mentioned something similar earlier

Hi Jongi,

If you press the jog dial button downwards while ringing, it will silence the call.

I have never experienced the "drop call on answer" bug you mention.

I've also not experienced the call dropping when answering mentioned earlier.
I have however experienced that the phone would ring once and then go to voicemail sometimes in the WM6 ROM I used.

@dotVibe - thx for the step by step!

Oh I didn't make myself clear about the cal dropping. It happens when i am trying to dial someone. So i punch in a number. Press the green phone button or talk. It tries to connect but then drops it and shows Call Ended 00:00. I will have to remember to check my bill to see whether it is charging me.

That has happened to me on a couple of WM devices before ... I am not quite sure but what i have found is that the number you are trying to call is not available ... or it is a prob on the device cos it will magically correct sometimes after a soft reset

The Guy - I don't know. It doesn't happen enough to make it a serious problem. It just irritates me sometimes.

Another thing I'd like to ask is regarding voice recording (not call recording). When I installed xda Live 0.20.0, the second button on the left side when pressed for a long time would bring up the recorder (I actually assume this is the case seeing as I saw Button 5 (Press and Hold) was mapped to Record). I then installed Cyberon VoiceDialler (which I most likely don't need seeing as I hardly use the program) and I can't see the function Record.

And speaking of the VoiceDialler, when using a bluetooth headset, is it able to pick up a voice tag if you speak into the headset?

And re the bluetooth headset (I've a Motorola one), I notice it isn't able to pick up an ongoing call if you turn it on after you've picked up. My Nokia and Nokia bluetooth headset have been able to do this.

And the last question in this long essay, if the phone is ringing and I turn my bluetooth headset, will I then be able to pick up the call from the headset? Again this was something I was able to do with Nokia.

Phew.

dotVIBE,

Does your WM Black edition 1.1 have blank ( White ) keys in the phone dialer ?
