Hey guys

Ok, so I'll admit that I'm not the most clued up person when it comes to PC's, but I'm almost certain that I've got a problem with my PC. Yesterday and Friday night, I've been battling to surf the web ... well, this site and compile a shopping list on Pick 'n Pay's site. I haven't tried much else. (Too occupied trying to get PnP to load)

So far, AVG anti-virus hasn't picked up anything. I ran AdAware and it picked up the following:

2007/03/24 15:40:44:781 Found Spyware:
Type: spyware
SubType: 100 word search free
Location: hkey_local_machine\software\the silicon realms toolworks

I can't get adaware to remove it, since I need to register it. I'm currently doing a search on my pc to try find it.

Yesterday, I then installed AVG Anti-Spyware, which found and removed cydoor or something like that.

I'm still not happy and am currently at www.what-process.com trying to identify what processes should or should not be there. So far, I've found that I've got two occurences of rundll32.exe (exactly the same, but only one .exe found on my system).

And I've got 6 occurences of svchost.exe. The site says I should have 5 - 2 system, 2 network and one local. I've got 3 system.

I am running XP Home, SP2. Please advise

Thanks,
Aphy

UPDATE:

Ok, so maybe I panicked a bit ... but I've disabled that Windows Firewall warning thing, as well as the Java Updates. And I've shut down that Windows Messenger thing. Maybe the internet was slow, but it sure seems better now.

I'm still curious why I've got 6 svchost processes running. Any advice?

Thanks.

Ok, this is a shameless bump 'cos I'm still having a little problem with http access lagging. I honestly don't know where the problem lies, because AVG is not picking up anything and I don't have any weird processes running.

Except, now, I've got 4 svchost processes running - all system, when I should only have two. ... This is excluding the network & local service. I would really appreciate advice. :D

Thanks :)

Send me a pm with your e-mail adrs and I will send you a program called "hijackthis".
Run the program, save a logfile, then paste it or upload it here:
http://www.hijackthis.de/
It will get analyzed and they will tell you what to keep and what to delete.

teraside, thanks for that ... thing is, I'm on a network ... about half an hour or so ago, both ZA_medic and I were accessing the same site from a PC - www.radicalmobility.com - and mine was slow, and his fast. Possibly ADSL was a cause, but I'm also concerned why I keep getting a new svchost system process popping up every so often.
