Huawei B618 Ethernet Bug? (Slow LAN speeds)

So I have been at wit's end for months regarding the ethernet ports and speeds on our B618.

B618 -> CAT6 -> TP-Link 5 port gigabit -> PC1 and PC2.

On 5GHz Wifi, we test at around 204Mbps DOWN and 50Mbps UP. Now if we only connect one PC it speedtests at around 140 and max 160 never the full 200 or anything more. Adding to that, I have replaced all the cables, tested 4-5 different ones, even bought a new gigabit switch to make sure it wasn't Asus being faulty and still nothing.

Next bloody bug: Every day we have to swap the cable from LAN to WAN, then back to LAN to make sure it stays at its (gimped) 140mbps speed. Because at least once a day it gets drops our LAN speed to 35 to 40mbps and somehow the port swap fixes it.

I have no idea what is up but it's going to make me become crazier than I already am.
 
Yeah there is an issue with the ethernet ports on the B618.

I used it as an Ethernet WAN router for a while. Speeds capped at around 180Mbps or so on a 200/100 line. I tried everything but the network ports were maxing out at 180Mbps or so.

I wouldn't mind the 180Mbps honestly, its just this constant drop to 50mbps because... why? It has done it 4-6 times in the last few hours where it just kills the speed for no reason, till we do some random port swapping.

Any ideas?

No unfortunately not.

I have 2 version of the B618. I have the B618s-22d and -65d. I want to see if my 65d does the same because I know the 22d does.

Shout on your findings, got the 22d but honestly I wish MTN (supersonic) supported more routers, the stock one throttles us to like 80mbps where the B618 has no issues getting 200mbps on its antennas.
 
We have also clocked well over 200mbps on LAN. The only issue is that every day or two we have to swap lan ports because it decides it wants to be a 35-50mbps when on WiFi it's still clocking 200...

In terms of stability I will have to keep track of it but here is a comparison B618 vs directly to the ONT.

This clearly shows that the switching capabilities of the B618 is around ~190Mbps on the Ethernet ports.

Thought as much, it's just strange but I guess the only way to really test fully is to use it with a 5G system and see what the ports can handle, but from those graphs, you can actually see the ports capping around there.

Still no luck this side with the bug of dropping down to 50mbps
 
What we have tried:
  • Replaced the switch
  • Ran a straight cable from Router to PC
  • Rebooted, factory reset, reset windows settings, changed ports
  • Replaced PCI-E Network card to a TP-Link gigabit too (even though new x470 mobo)
  • Replaced all the cables to brand new CAT 6 + tested with a tester and all good
  • Booted without plugging anything in, then connecting the LAN
  • Set the Huawei to LAN ONLY mode
  • Turned off 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wifi
 
Mikrotik have some LTE routers but not sure on local price or availability, very expensive at 210USD but it's Mikrotik so I assume is amazing.

There are plenty I know, but MTN has you locked to like 3 specific Huawei routers and you cant really use others so we are stuck with this.

So decided to bugger around with setting it to the LAN port on a brand new cable (aside from the two that run to the box) and seems to have fixed the issue for now.
 
Call Mustek and ask for the huawei rep, forgot her name but she is a chinese lady, she may be able to assist with speaking to Huawei HQ.

My B618 also seems to cap at 30 - 35Mbps on its LAN port. In my case I just haven't been able to get it to go any higher than that.

Now the question is how to fix this... Or is a different router really the only way out.

Honestly, we solved the issue but still not sure what the cause is. We replaced all the cables with a high grade cat6 cable, ran it to a new (cheap) unmanaged gigabit switch and used new cables from there. Also tested the cables and bandwidth to see with iperf and all were gigabit speeds.

We now get 160-180mbps on LAN, sometimes 5ghz is faster, but only by 10mbps so margin of error really.

I still think it's a bug with certain cables and routers, even network cards, but rather than finding it we just skipped it this way.

If you are stuck at 40mbps or so, replace the cable/try a new port.

Think you are definitely right with the bug theory as I've been able to increase the speeds to about 50Mbps by switching to LAN2.... Still a good 40Mbps descepency between the WiFi which easily gets 80 to 90Mbps.

Strange issues like this that makes one doubt your technical abilities! I even went as far as swopping my firewall and setting it up from scratch!

Lucky boy! :) I found this topic also by investigating this horrible speed and my measure even worse.

I put USB flash drive in a router and activated samba share. Yes, it's USB 2.0, meaning at least 30MB/s I must have. After tuning configuration mess in a Win7, I was able to use samba share. Copying a huge file gave me.... 12MB/s!!!!!! Like I work thru cheapest **** - 100Mbit ethernet!! I was shocked I spent enormous money on this box of cr...p. And what's interesting - NOWHERE you'll find actual spec for RJ45 in a B618 box! All they say "LAN: 2 x RJ45". Period. From what I can conclude, these clowns "save money" and installed old, cheap 100MBit guano.

I actually think they went with a more custom 240 or so Mbps RJ45 as you can actually get specific specifications. I could probably set it to LAN only mode, use it as a basic router and do a straight throughput bandwidth test, but not worth all the effort. After messing with a bunch of settings, cables and switches.

We are easily pushing 200-220 all the time now and the LAN ports don't seem to be the limiting factor. It just required us to run a brand new CAT6 cable to a new 1gbps unmanaged switch and branch out from there. With a lot of tweaking to which plugs in at what time and hard rebooting the device, it is thumping along now with no issues.

P.S Samba sharing and all the overhead will always mean USB 2.0 will max out at around 10-15 MB/s. Its a long story but that's just how it works and why USB 3.0 is such a giant factor if you ever need to do some file sharing.

The ultimate way to really push this would be to throw it into 5G mode and see what happens, but no 5G so no go.

I've given up on my B618. Been stuck on 20Mbps again for a week with the exact same setup that allowed to me to run at 80Mbps for a good couple of weeks.

Ordered a new router - Probably won't be as good but it can't be more unstable than this one.
