Huawei banned from using microSD cards

Somewhere around August you will lose access to the Play store as well as many apps from Google and other American companies or updates via the store for apps and devices themselves. (Unless this madness is brought to an end)

Which all we can do is wait,
When the time comes Users will need a phone Update with the new OS and we will see from there.

And the allegations that they’re spying / govt actors.
All allegations yes. No proof. Actually Huawei stealing from Cisco would explain why there's so many "back doors".

No google has stated that existing devices will continue to function and be supported.

Existing incl those in the store shelves too?

Besides that, the "requirements" to have 1TB of storage in a phone is hogwash, unless someone downloads a lot of torrents, 1TB is really overkill. And to the people saying "What about photos?", we have cloud storage for that.

No way. I am not putting my content in the cloud so that it can be used by the cloud storage provider however they see fit, as well as the fact that I need more space for applications, not content so much.

Fake news. Stop spreading unsubstantiated crap buddy.

Because its a way better idea keeping your data on your device and if it goes missing you just have to say bye bye to the data.

Existing devices will not receive any android updates after the 19th August.

No, I don't need a device like a phone to store data. I was saying two things in my post. One, I'm not putting my content in someone else's hands, and two I need a phone with lots of space for apps.

also who the hec will pay the premium of the NanoSD card prices to only use it one brand phone.
Ask the special Apple people that spend thousands on dongles and crap that just works on one brand.

It's not about quality. It's about being a threat to existing American companies that lost the 5G race.

I’m not so sure that’s the cause, the biggest beneficiaries for 5G infrastructure will be Ericsson and Nokia which aren’t American.

Huawei is a victim of Trumps trade war, plain and simple.

As I understand it, Huawei will still push out updates but just slower than the present, with a delay of around 2 or 3 weeks over normal, I think I read.

Yes. What's not clear is whether it extends to new devices of existing models. It should though as it's the same firmware.

Stop with the crap. Google has explicitly stated they would.

A victim why? Think about it. Why specifically Huawei? They are in the lead with 5G while the American boys have fallen behind.

Why specifically Huawei?

Maybe because Huawei was the biggest most successful organisation so it was sticking its head furthest above the parapet and King Donald saw them as the best target.

Im not saying the 5g side was not also a consideration but they really are a victim to the much bigger Trump USA vs China trade game.

Please post a source. Clearly you don't understand the difference between android OS updates and services like Google Play, Google Play Protect which will function for many years to come. I have 5 year old tablet here and play store etx all still works well. The OS however hasn't seen updates in the last 4 years.

You do realize as it stands right now, Google will not provide Huawei with any future core Android OS updates, once the 90 days have lapsed?

This won't be as easy. Just because it's open source doesn't mean they will be allowed to use it. They might ban Huawei from using any software that was created or belongs to an US company. Besides, you don't honestly think if they switch to AOSP that they can just quickly push out an OTA update to update your phone?

The ban will most likely be lifted anyway.

More crap. So you actually agree G Play will continue to work. You realise the OS is open source so google isn't involved in releasing device updates apart from releasing the core OS to market?

Your device not receiving updates is a result of the manufacturer no longer supporting it. Choose better next time.

The ban will most likely be lifted anyway.
Yes, so you won't be called on the crap you're spewing.

Geez. Why would they ban existing devices that are licensed to use GMS Android? The ban clearly revokes the Android license (core Android updates supplied to Huawei) for future devices and for existing devices after 90 days. Google however said they will keep current Huawei devices updated when it comes to Google play...

Exactly, the device will stop receiving updates as Huawei won't have anything to push via OTA. Again, you won't be able to change to AOSP via OTA. Is it so difficult to understand?

And there is a difference between AOSP and GMS.

It's clear you don't understand anything. But as you said the ban won't stay so you won't have to reply to these statements and will continue to claim you would have been right.

The core Android source code is known as Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and is primarily licensed under the Apache License.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)

It's open source as in free to use. Google can't revoke the license as it's public and they themselves incorporate a Linux kernel which is under GNU GPL 2 which covers their use of it so there. If google tried to revoke the license they would themselves be in breach of their own use of the license.

Play store and other proprietary components are google property but they'll still receive updates as well as per google's statement.

Meh.

“For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.”

Implications

The immediate consequence of this decision will be Huawei’s loss of access to Android updates, which means that existing Huawei smartphones will not be able to receive any official Android OS updates going forward.

According to a report by Reuters, Huawei will only be able to use the open-source version of Android and will lose access to proprietary apps and services from Google.
