Huawei banned from using microSD cards

“Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.”

It's open source as in free to use. Google can't revoke the license as it's public and they themselves incorporate a Linux kernel which is under GNU GPL 2 which covers their use of it so there. If google tried to revoke the license they would themselves be in breach of their own use of the license.

Play store and other proprietary components are google property but they'll still receive updates as well as per google's statement.

The core Android source code is known as Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and is primarily licensed under the Apache License.

You should read what you quote. "Primarily" being the keyword there.

But I'm done here. Seems we talking past each other.

So when they receive their updates will they be the open source vanilla android experience or the Google Android experience? They're two very different things.
Nothing will change. "Google Android experience" from what people say is actually vanilla android. I suppose you mean by "vanilla" the bare Android OS without play store and again nothing will change there.

No you should comprehend what you read. The rest is still under GNU GPL 2. Both however are free to use licenses. It's not something google can revoke from the public domain.

Also: "The immediate consequence of this decision will be Huawei’s loss of access to Android updates"
It's Huawei losing access to updates and not users but it doesn't matter anyway as these updates are open source and free to use. So "existing Huawei smartphones will not be able to receive any official Android OS updates". They'll still receive updates but they won't be official anymore.

LOL. I can't help but laugh but the person who wrote that clearly has no idea what he's talking about and I couldn't get past the first two paragraphs. The Apache License is a free to use attribution license. It's not something that google are within their right to revoke and the licensing exists between the public and the user. I don't even know if they can release a version of Android that isn't under the GPL or Apache license as they themselves are under the GPL which requires that all derivatives be released under the same or similar license.

Install the OSP version, give it to a normal user and they will notice the difference.

With a Huawei skin on it most people probably wouldn’t notice any difference except for the absence of the google apps.
