Hello everyone,

Is the external antenna connector on the Huawei E156G modem only for diversity like the E1820, or is it a "proper" connector :)

A friend of mine also has a E156G. This is a proper external connector, reporting the signal of the external antenna once plugged in. This modem however only does UMTS 2100.

Thanks ajax. The modem will be used with a MTN sim, so UMTS 2100 is not such a big issue.

Huawei E156 has HSDPA/UMTS 2100/1900/850MHz and GSM/GPRS/EDGE(850/900/1800/1900MHz) ,support Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac Operating Systems .I think the antenna connector between E156 and E1820 is the same connector ,but it says that it is MCX connector in the Swedish forum.Of course ,they are the same antenna connector between E156 and E156E.Does anyone who use the antenna with E1820?

They are wrong. MCX connector can be found in Sony Erricson and 3COM cards. E156 has CRC9, the most typical connector in Huawei modems, including E1820.
However E1820 do not support external antenna properly. Read other thread about this issue.
