Huawei e220 faliure rate

Nope, don't know why, and the reason is likely to differ from one installation of Windoze to the next.

You're not the first to complain about getting an E220 installed, but usually what happens is a forumite struggles and then days later finds there was some application running that was trying to hump the E220 to death - I still think that is what is happening on those notebooks you have there - some application is running momentarily when the E220 is detected and then stops running before you even see it in Task Manager, but by that time it has already interfered.

I have had that happen to me with a customer.

@v3g: Have you heard of PKZIP? :)

But thanks anyway, I'm beginning to suspect a speed issue with some of the newer E220 firmwares. Will report my findings.

It's my duty to ensure we waste your cap...;) Actually it's on my own web server, so I'm also paying...:o

I assumed it would have been compressed in any case but I see it zips down to 6M. Will fix....

Best to edit and specify that it's only for Windoze heXPee - otherwise someone will try that [older] firmware version with Vista...

PS: md5sum? :p

Best is to decline the autorun software. Pull the drivers from the cab file on the flash drive that auto mounts, then install the card with those drivers and us Ginggs tool! 7 months no issues on 2 pc's and 2 laptops!

I've installed my E220 on my desktop (Asus mobo) and laptop (Fujitsu-Siemens) without any problems.

Love the idea that you don't have to carry a installation disk with you, simply plug it into any device (except HP and Acer) and you're on the net! How cool is that? :)

Why cant the USB flash drive behave like a USB mass storage device?

Okay, im dropping my number of 4 laptops to 3 and 1/2. Cause with much effort I got the modem working on the one HP laptop.

Though, it only works on the one USB port (the one I installed it on). Also, sometimes when it gets put in, it hangs the whole machine. Also, if I bootup and plug it in.. and it works... all is good. If I pull it out, wait a while and plug it in... it does not work at all. So you have to reboot :/ (I did check for hanging process`s but it looks like the USB doesnt pick it up again)

W1z4rd, if you really need 3G Internet access on those 3.5 laptops you are welcome to test the Advinne AMC USB modem. PM me for more details.

The modem is available in 2 models:
a) no onboard software - software supplied on CD.
b) onboard software that appears like a USB flash drive.

XP and Vista drivers are supplied with the Windows software.
It will also work on a standard Linux 2.6 kernel (no additional modules required).
