Vodacom3g a question for you.

I have just recieved my modem yesterday and I have followed the instructions in the book. It is the E220 USB modem. after plugging the modem in it told me to re-boot my Desktop which I did. When the PC boot up again it come up with a black screen indicating the following:
Verifying DMI Pool data...........
Boot from CD
Boot from CD
Boot from CD

After this it just sit there and the PC does not want to go any further.
I have to disconnect the E220 USB Modem and only then the PC start to load the system software.

Only after it has loaded windows in a whole, I inset the USB plug of the modem and it start to load the software of the modem.

Also I did find that there is no ways that you can start the modem from the;
START
CONNECT TO menu. I can only star the modem once the Icon of the Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite appear on the taskbar at the bottom right.
Is there anyway that you can put a shortcut on the desktop to start the modem.

otherwise I must say this is the best I have ever seen in performance after i have been with Sentech and iBurst. It is fast quick and no delay at all on any page or website that I open. Great device, and I receive an excellent signal.

The software is supposed to start automatically when you insert the USB modem. It contains a ram disk with an autorun file on it. Sounds like this is not working.

- What OS do you have?
- Service pack level?
- most up to date BIOS?
- autorun enabled?

Seems most of these problems revolve around Windows and USB issues, so I'd start looking there.

There are 2 separate issues here:

As v3g pointed out, the E220 has a builtin ram disk, however most PCs will see this as a CDROM drive, so what you are seeing is your PC BIOS detecting a USB CDROM drive and attempting to boot from it, and since the E220 does not contain a bootable operating system, your PC's BIOS will play dumb and not know what to do.

To solve this problem, check the boot order in your PC's BIOS - make sure that it is set to boot from your operating system's hard disk and not from a CDROM drive.

Due to the E220 being a USB device, your PC & Windoze needs to be given time to detect the E220 and decide what to do with it, I suspect that if you waited long enough, it might be listed in your Conect To menu.

Ag stupid me. I have forgot the boot-up sequence, so now it is working fine. Thanks for the info.
