HI

I connect to MTN GPRS/3G/HSDPA using a Huawei E220 USB modem on my laptop with Windows XP. It's been working fine for nearly a year, and then suddenly stopped connecting. When I try to connect, I get an error messge saying "Failed to connect. Please check the wireless device or the setting of the network connection". I've updated the software (from Huawei and MTN websites), but it didn't help. I tried removing and re-inserting the SIM card - no difference. I then uninstalled all drivers and software, and re-installed latest version - still no luck!! Now the USB port I usually use for the modem no longer even "sees" the device when I insert it. When plugging into another USB port, it picks it up and instals it as a modem, mass storage device AND CD ROM drive!

What the heck is going on??

Any ideas why it won't connect?

Thanks

being a year old maybe the modem has said no more but thats just my opinion and it's just an idea that iam throwing in there to try and help but it is worth looking into

I forgot to give an important bit of information: It still woks on my wife's laptop, so it must be a setting on my machine somewhere.

Mine gets what I call "PMS" like now I am using my cellphone as a modem as my fastlink times out or "no connection"
This happens once a month for a week or so.
My laptop also detects a cd rom drive and I just ignore it.
Try downgrading to GPRS/EDGE for a while. This always works for me but I am too lazy to do that now.
You also say it works on the other machine. I also have 2 laptops and have often changed and it works on the other one. Then changed back and it would work on the first one again.
Sometimes it stops working on Edge so I upgrade to 3G and it will work again.
Strange but true.

By the way, don't change your settings or reinstall your software. You don't need software for your modem. It will install itself and show DVDROM detected.
If this carries on for some days, rather use "System Restore" and see what happens.

Hi

I finally managed to solve the problem. I ran services.msc and found that both remote access services were set to manual, and telephony was set to disabled. I set all three to automatic, and now the modem works! Don't ask me how those settings changed!
