It's happen when I try to find easy way to connect the internet by Huawei E220 Modem. I have make too many installer to myself because my hobbies are changing distro and testing Alpha, Beta, RC Distro released. It's hard because everytime I install new distro, I must configure the huawei setup. It's really wasting my time for about half an hour just to set up it. So I built my own installer.. it is too many but just five unit that I has been uploading to internet user.

Alpha version 1 released on January 20, 2008 refer to http://mustakim.blogster.com/huawei-e220-software-installer,
It is simple installer and I use to latest distro only.
the download website: http://www.savefile.com/files/1329895

My Beta version is version 2 released on January 24, 2008 includes updates to verion alpha and also extra package wvstreams-4.4.1, wvdial-1.60, kppp-1.6.25, ndiswrapper-1.51-i486-2.6.23.12, ppp-2.4.4-i486-50.1 and nozomi. I'd built this special just for Mepis, gOS, Zenwalk and Slax. But it not complete yet because too many method you must do to this distro. This is extra package, this is not my package. I'm just helping you to configure your wvstreams, wvdial and kppp. Extract a tar.gz and tar.bz file and follow instruction on readme. This is refer to my other blog : http://mustakim.blogster.com/huawei-e220-installer-version-2

To install extra package, Extract a tar.gz and tar.bz file, cd to folder. It must start with wvstreams first. The download website at: http://www.savefile.com/files/1337714
To dial, you just entering: wvdial huewai_e220

It's not joking with the mispelling huawei. However, try to get connect by KPPP or Kinternet. Version 2 is build for this!!!!!! A default number is *99***1#.. but at my country (Malaysia, it is *99#). So, you can change to any number or dialer style such as wvdial 3g, wvdial hsdp, wvdial huawei etc at terminal. Just edit as superuser at /etc/wvdial.conf using gedit, kate or kwrite.

My first RC released on February 2, 2008. This software I has been post to linux.softpedia. What's new?
-Not using wvdial version 1.40 anymore, use your default linux wvdial version. Sorry because the blog I has been modified

Fixed
-Bugs on KPPP (e220rc1 installer)

My latest released on February 13, 2008 was he220-pclos and he220rc2. Refer to http://mustakim.blogster.com/huawei-e220-on-linux-new-installer-feb-2008
and

About he220-pclos
Why its name is pclos? Okay, it is a gimmick because PcLinuxOS always reject my huawei E220 post on pclos forum. They said, the site is for asking question, not tell which software is good. LOL.
Okay.. back to topic, this installer suitable for ubuntu and ubuntu based, pclinuxOS, Linux Mint 4.0 Daryna and mandriva but also all distro that I has been tested. The listed distro is a suitable one. Refer to http://mustakim.blogster.com/huawei-e220-for-pclinuxos-mint-40-mandriva

Get the installer at http://upload2.net/page/download/hxKYQmn45X4qRJG/he220-pclos.tar.gz.html
or at soft82.com..

About he220rc2
It's not complete yet because I'd planned to collect a complaint from the world linux user. This is second RC released. Use it on Fedora, Opensuse, Sabayon, etc

Huawei E220 installer version 2

I HAS BEEN GOT AN 5 STAR AWARD FROM SOFT82.

Hi.. I made this after I made many research for Huawei modem E220. Better try it. It is easy and save a time. A reason why I develope this installer is to make solution for trouble in configuration of Huawei E220 modem on linux. Read at read me. Execute this tar.gz file first. This is my first post to linuxers. Hope this stuff could solve your problems. The easiest way is to save our time to get connecting on internet. Get the stuff at here:

Huawei E220 on Ubuntu, pclos 2007, pclos 2008, Linux Mint 4.0 Daryna and mandriva.

How to install??

Extract file

cd to the directory

make

make install

That's all. This is built only for Pclinuxos and mandriva. Don't use my e220rc1 or he220rc2. This installer is final release for mandriva and pclinuxos. It's stable. If you think it's not completed the job, try to insert this command..

su
sh /etc/huawei.sh

or (Mint n Ubuntu)

sudo sh /etc/huawei.sh

Second step:

su
sh /etc/mod.sh

or (Mint n Ubuntu)

sudo sh /etc/mod.sh

The default link is for he220 mint, ubuntu, pclos and mandriva.
Alternative Download link (he220)

http://upload2.net/page/download/hxKYQmn45X4qRJG/he220-pclos.tar.gz.html

For other distro brand (such as fedora, opensuse, sabayon, gentoo, debian etc), download here:

Get it free at (he220rc2):

http://www.savefile.com/files/1378220
http://upload2.net/page/download/vO1zcUWsn4gdGBW/he220rc2.tar.gz.html

It's suitable for Kernel 2.6 and latest and I has been trying this stuff to opensuse 10-11, sabayon mini, pclos 2007 gnome, mint Daryna, fedora 7-8, mandriva 2007-2008, ubuntu gutsy -hardy and ubuntuME. I has testing to gOS 2.0 too but it doesn't work because it require wvdial installer. Maybe it also compatible with gentoo, slackware and redhat family too and give me a comment about it. Good news, it's very easy with Ubuntu based but I'm not sure about OpenGEU.

FOR MANDRIVA AND PCLOS, it must be connect by this way:

-

BTW the alternative way is using ppp0. You can find an icon at a panel (top left) it seems like double pc. Right click on it and choose configure network.

Analog Phone, Manual choice -> choose /dev/ttyUSB0, dont choose any "
provider, just proceed with NEXT, eventually type the following: "

Connection name: Your-Provider "
Phone number : *99# "
Login ID : ppp (can be whatever) "
Password : ppp (can be whatever) "
Authentication : CHAP "
and also choose automatic connect after reboot. (option button)

Keep clicking on NEXT and you shall be connected soon "
Don't forget to updates ppp after get a connection"

If you not find the icon, go to Control Centre " choose
Network&Internet.

Analog Phone, Manual choice -> choose /dev/ttyUSB0, dont choose any "
provider, just proceed with NEXT, eventually type the following: "

Connection name: Your-Provider "
Phone number : *99# "
Login ID : ppp (can be whatever) "
Password : ppp (can be whatever) "
Authentication : CHAP "
and also choose automatic connect after reboot. (option button)

p/s: choose connection after reboot means if you restart your pc (next time), you will automatically connected.

FEDORA USER
nO MORE IP IDENTIFY...

Additional:
-If you get anything problems with wvdial hsdpa, I suggest you to try KPPP or Kinternet to get connect. (especially to Sabayon and Gentoo user)
- You can change or modify a username, password and phone number at /etc/wvdial.conf if need.
- I am glad if you can comment me about my huawei E220 installer.
- Don't sell my installer!! It is free for everyone

Interesting topic. I wish there was a fix for the E620 data card, which is the one I am trying to install in PCLos.
