Make sure you are connected to the repositories, go here https://forge.vodafonebetavine.net/projects/vodafonemobilec/ download this file https://forge.betavine.net/frs/down...nect-card-driver-for-linux_2.0.beta1_i386.deb and switch your laptop off plug in your modem switch your laptop back on and run the vodafone-mobile software and it should work.

On Ubuntu I normally have to get the internet working using the wvdial file first, then download the vodafone software and all dependencies.

See below:

I forgot to mention that you can find install instructions in the INSTALL file, that file appears in both the .deb and the .tar.bz2 files. I've just noticed that the last step that appears there is no longer valid. I'll post it here:

How to install Vodafone Mobile Connect Card driver for Linux

This mini howto assumes that the system is a Ubuntu 6.10 based distro.

Preliminary steps:

Add universe and multiverse to /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt-get update

Dependencies:

sudo apt-get install python-dbus python-twisted python-serial \
python-glade2 python-pysqlite2 wvdial nozomi-source python-notify \
python-gnome2-extras

(inside the src dir)
sudo python setup.py install

Now you can start it with

/usr/bin/vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux

and if you run into any problem and you want to send us the traceback of the error (or you just want to see how the state machine works) you can use:

/usr/bin/vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-debug

Hope this helps,
Pablo

are you connected to the internet when you try install the software you need to have another connection while you install that software as your system needs to pull in those missing dependices ? If you dont have another connection you are going to have to use the wvdial option first.

it dont work

i dont have another connection

the Huawei E220 dont work on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 it need driver

give me wvdial

As mentioned in another forum, link up to www.betavine.net, download the Vodafone connect software and forget you ever had any problems.

I hope this helps.

Only problem is that you need an internet connection already running to download the Vodafone software and all dependencies.

Easiest way is probably a cabled lan connection.

ok yeah.. turns out its pretty easy to setup.

Plug modem in.

run pppconfig in command line

edit the peers file so the device it uses looks something like /dev/ttyUSB0

save,

then pon mtn

Connected

poff mtn.

Disconnected. I didnt need to install that vodafone software

If you don't need the sms functionality then the wvdial method from command line is effective.
