Huawei E220 on Windows Vista

Hello MTN_Data_Dude,

I have sent you a PM for my email address. Please send me the beta drivers for Huawei E220. Thanks......

I tried installing MTN fastlink software and it is able to detect my sim card and operational. But when I press connect it prompt me " Fail to create RasEntry".
You can try creating the dial-up networking entry manually, call it 'MTN F@stlink', set the phone number to '*99#' and leave the username and password blank.

I know whats the problem all along....we have to set the user account control in control panel to off. Although I manage to dial using fastlink..it end up with failed connection.

Frustrated..I installed VMC lite and manage to connect on my vista 32 bit notebook...yahoooo at last I have connection!!!

I never install the firmware or dashboard update..jus make sure the vista drivers are located in window/system32 folder. Locate the 2 data interface and direct installation to the folder.

Thanks all for the infor in this forum..lots of infor but eventually got to try all ways to succeed.

It's a good idea to install the firmware update, it fixes the problem with the USB composite device and the emulated CD-ROM device in Vista. An added bonus is that USSD commands are more reliable.

I suspect it is because the instructions for the firmware update clearly state the update should be done on a computer not running Windows Vista.

I believe it may be possible, but haven't had the opportunity to try this myself, to do the upgrade on a computer running Windows Vista provided you follow the workaround described at the beginning of this thread.

Please let us know if you are able to do it on Vista, if not, I suggest finding a friend with Windows 2000 or XP and do the upgrade on their computer.

Yes, I tried the method on the first page as I have a XP desktop...but I cant locate autorun and the XP drivers on the modem. I only manage to find the two data interface. I only manage to find and install the vista drivers from this forum. Somehow using the method on the first page I got problem with the composite device when updating the firmware.

You can download the E220 software for many different network operators directly from Huawei's website.

The software updates from Huawei copy the installation files and drivers to the emulated CD-ROM device in your E220. You still need to run the installer on the emulated CD-ROM device, this will install the necessary drivers and the dashboard software.
