I was just given one, a Vodacom one but I am with MTN.
Would it still work?

I've used both Vodacom and MTN sims in mine and it worked fine, obviously you just can't use the Vodafone software.

Didn't read through that whole thread but I just installed the Vodafone software for drivers, then used ginggs' MDMA app, works fine.

you can download the original huawei software from http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736

remember:

APN for vodacom: vlive
APN for mtn: internet

download this software and you can use any sim card for it.

ginggs software can be downloaded from http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma
