My son brought me this dongle from 8ta and I am lost at installing it. Anyone done it before on this one? If so, please help!

Why are you still running 11.04? Support for it ended quite some time back.13.04 is out already.

Laptop cannot run 12. So back to XP we go......formatting at this moment. Thanks for your advice, regardless.

Where you located. Maybe someone can sort you out with some ISO images or there might even be a freedom toaster in your area.
Only if you want to enable the modem and diagnostic interfaces.
I've just tried a Huawei E303 (also a HiLink modem) in Ubuntu 13.04 and it was plug and play.
If you are close to me, I'll download it and bring it to you.
