Hi all,

I was just yesterday given an E630 Huawei data card with a Vodacom sim by my IT department for mobile connections to our VPN, as iBurst was not able to get me through.

Have had some problems with the E630 card on XP, network administrator phoned the corporate helpdesk, and was advised to use an older version of the dashboard software as Vodacom admitted that their version 9.1 has compatibility issues with XP. Older version (7.something) does not see the E630 and hence I can only connect at 3G speeds and not HSDPA (my local tower is HSDPA enabled as my colleagues can connect successfully at HSDPA speeds in our area)

In the meanwhile I would like to use the sim in my generic E220 but needs to know the APN name and username/password. Can someone help with this please?

Much appreciated, Rudi

Download this version 7 it supports E630 http://168.210.128.126/vcozadoc/services/3g/downloads/software/VMC 7.03.0005.0.zip

Thanks for all the advice. I tried Version 7 (given to me by network admin), installed it but sees the 630 as a 610, and could not connect at HSDPA (tower is enabled if anyone wondered). Took card across to a Vista machine, installed version that came on the CD, same problems as on XP. Software makes the machine hang (program freezes up) and cannot find the network. Can the card be faulty or is it a software problem?

Try it in another laptop with the same software otherwise take it the customer care centre let them test it for you.

Did you get your E220 usb modem to work?

Csnoopy,

OK yes tried the E220, works fine (always has). Spoke to Alfonso at Vodacome Corporate Connect, advised me to use version 8.03 with both Vista and XP. He was going to send me a link to download the version in an email but it never arrived, perhaps someone from VC can help me with getting this version.

When I was digging around for a way to get the E630 to work on Vista I came across the download for VMC 8 on vodafone.co.uk (link), but I got the impression that was specific to the internal cards (ala Dell D620).

I managed to get the E630 working on vista. You can find the instructions here

Oh I forgot to add. The E630 also worked perfectly in a XP notebook running VMC 7. If that helps.

As far as my knowledge goes VMC version 8.x is only for certain notebooks with internal 3G modems. So this will be a total waste & loss of bandwith to download version 8 of VMC.

1) Which release of version 7 do you have, latest is here http://168.210.128.126/vcozadoc/services/3g/downloads/software/VMC 7.03.0005.0.zip
2) Remember to uninstall all previous versions of VMC.
3) The best is also to uninstall the device drivers and reinstall the device drivers.

Thanks all. I will give the version 7 as per Csnoopy's link a try. Decided to can Vista until SP1, too many blue screen errors too frequently! Let's see if this will work with XP SP2 and the E630.
