Here’s your first look at the Huawei Mate 20 Lite – and its iPhone X notch

We are anxiously awaiting the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 series which will include the vanilla Mate 20 as well as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It also seems that there will be a Huawei Mate 20 Lite, and we have our first look at it in the images above, via Evan Blass (@EVLeaks).

The first thing you’ll notice is the huge notch at the top of the screen, which looks a lot like the notch on the iPhone X. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for a notch-less experience as you had with the Huawei Mate 10 line, you might be out of luck.

The Huawei P20 line – which launched earlier this year – features three variants, all with a notched display. Therefore, it’s highly likely that the Mate 20 line will follow suit and push a notched display onto each variant.

This looks interesting if the alleged information in the above link are indeed true about the so called Mate 20 Pro. Looks like Huawei may just have a device coming that would take on the Note 9 :)

I don't think Huawei needed the Mate 20 Pro to take on the Note 9. The P20 Pro still takes the entire Samsung S and Note series out of the game.
 
I've never really understood - what the difference with the Mate and P Series?
 
My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to the close relatives and friends of Fanie Braai. It was a great honour being his friend and fellow blogger.

Indeed, he will be deeply missed. Absolutely shocking. :( such a humorous and sharp guy, always willing to help and talk about tech.
 
I just realised there isn't a proper thread for this device yet,
and now that it has officially arrived here may as well create one.

I was at first a little confused by the Ads calling it a AI Four
Camera , but this now makes sense as it has 2 AI cameras on the back and the front, which is where I think we should be heading as more and more people use their phones to take Selfies/Group Selfies sometimes more than they do to take images of other things.

What do you guys think?

What gets me is that this is just a "Lite" yet:
6.3inch display
3750mAh battery
Dual Front facing cameras

Looking forward to the big boys now.

My question is why is Huawei putting an emphasis on 4 cameras as if it's an improvement from their triple lense system

I think it's mainly due to the fact that this new setup means both the Dual Front and Rear dual Cameras are using AI, and the front setup is now much closer to being like the rear setup. Maybe the Mate20/Pro will feature Triple camera at the rear and dual at the front and both will also use AI.

My point exactly... Does it mean that the Mate 20 will be marketed as the 5AI cameras?

This will be my 6th Huawei ... more than any other brand actually.
