Huawei Mate 30/Mate 30 Pro

Huawei Mate 30 Pro vs. P30 Pro camera comparison

Wrap-up

The Mate 30 Pro has an awesome camera setup that takes great photos across all sorts of different conditions - but we already knew that. How it fits in the Huawei lineup is a little tricky, however.

On the one hand, it has a vastly superior ultra wide angle module to the previous bestest P30 Pro (even if we would prefer it to go at least a little wider). But then the P30 Pro still wins hands down for reach with its 5x telephoto, which is also optically much better than the Mate's 3x. Now, if you find 5x too long, the Mate's unit might be a better fit, though the P30 Pro's in-between magnifications weren't half bad, were they.

Isn't it time we can have everything in one place, finally?

Greetings and salutations!
I have the choice between the Mate 30 and the P30.
I'd love to get the Mate 30, but with the current Playstore block, I wonder if I should rather not just get the P30.

Any news about the Playstore block being lifted at any point in the future?

Thanks in advance.

P30 or P30 pro? Rather get the pro in your scenario

Not sure if this has been discussed here, but the Huawei Mate 30 contains no American parts.
I'm not pro-China at all, rather my point is that no matter the country, playing the bully using sanctions all the time is not a good idea. Countries will move away from your products if you do so, for example France and Germany are looking for alternatives to SWIFT.

Have to say I remain a huge fan of the Porsche Edition Mate phones, they always do just enough in terms of the build and internal hardware to be attractive.

Mate 30 RS is no exception, I think this is the best looking of them, we need more phones with Leather backs!

Huawei shipped 12 million Mate 30 series phones worldwide

Around a month ago Huawei passed the 7 million sales mark with its Mate 30 lineup. Now the figure has grown to 12 million units, according to a new report from Chinese news agency Sina.

The figure is quite impressive given the limited availability of the handsets outside of China and their lack of Google Mobile Services. Looking ahead, Huawei’s goal with the Mate 30 lineup is to top the 20 million shipments mark which seems like an attainable goal judging by the current sales volumes.

Impressive indeed. Undoubtedly a monster device spec wise but Google services is a deal breaker.

What would be comparative figures for say a P30 pro or s10

I got one of these last week and collected Friday afternoon ... but I haven't had massive amounts of time to play with it as yet.

I see there are potential workarounds to GMS which I'll try, but haven't done any of that yet - so I'll update shortly on the apps and limitations. The first thing I did after using Phone Clone to get my contacts on the phone, is download a new store store called Aptoide which seems to have most the apps I want. I've got WhatsApp, Facebook Instagram, Chrome, Dropbox with zero issues, as well local apps such as MyBB, News24, EskomSePush . I enjoy my smarthome, so also have the EZVIZ, eWeLink (Sonoff) and Rainbird app for my irrigation.

A few apps that I downloaded didn't work at first and I haven't time to play around ... so I'm still trying to see if there is an easy work around. So Uber, AirBNB and YouTube music were the first issues I came across :(

I've been playing with the camera and really really impressed with the nightmode over the old M20P - which was already outstanding! I've added the night mode video to see how it 'grabs' any light it can - as well as a photo between M30P / M20P

Keeping to the camera and how it differs from the M20P, I decided to try the 30 x zoom ... (M20P at the top, M30P at the bottom)

One thing I was taken back with , is that the M30P doesn't have a macro mode.

I kinda thought that it had to have because the previous generations did, so this M30P must have. But it appears I was wrong.

Hmmm. :( How does the aperture mode work?
