Me too. The mate 8 was my first choice, after the 7. Not sure why they'd shrink the screen from 6.0" to 5.5. It's less than that because Huaweis don't have capacitive buttons. The buttons themselves take up screen real estate.

Edit: and why would they make the battery so much smaller?? :(

The Mate 8 is apparently only coming next year (well so I read on one of the forums) . Honestly I'm more than happy with the Mate 7 . Im not willing to give up the 6" display and the big battery for the Mate S .

Damn. It. I'm really going to have to resist the temptation to get the 7, then. There really is no actual need for me to upgrade this Note 4...But the Mate 7 looks so nice.

:) oh but it is , especially the Gold Dual sim version :D

I was originally also going to wait , but who knows what the Mate 8 will have , so I just got the Mate 7 and have never been sorry . I see the Mate 7 Gold version has also come down a little in price at Cell C as well .

It's R429 now on Epic 150 for the Gold Dual sim version at Cell C .
The Mate 8 will more than likely be a long wait anyhow considering that it took a while for the Mate 7 to come to SA as it was very popular abroad and they could not keep up with the demand apparently . The Mate 7 is huawei 's best selling device apparently .

OK. Telkom are meant to be getting some dual SIM Mate 7's at the canal walk branch sometime soon as well...

Agreed, the whole attraction to me of the Mate 7 is the 6 inch screen.

Spoke to a TM consultant yesterday. The Mate 7 has been discontinued.

That must be a Telkom thing as Cell C have just included it in its September monthly deal book , Huawei SA have also been punting it on Facebook. Whilst not impossible I doubt Huawei would discontinue their fastest selling handset just as yet with the Mate S only just being launched . I reckon it will be at least 3 or 4 months before we even see the Mate S in SA (if not longer)

TB has also included it in their latest brochure but yes its been discontinued for Telkom. I think it was too cheap and they don't want to risk raising the price so they just letting it go and punting the higher priced but smaller P8 range.

Really pathetic service if you ask me

What does this Epic150 contract get you? I might need to wander into a heap Cell C store sometime soon. Always hearing nightmare stories about Cell C coverage though. Slow speeds. Calls dropping etc. Not ideal.

Stop in at a Cell C store, grab a free SIM (I think that is still on), and test it. No harm done. It's dual SIM as well, so you can stick another network card in the other SIM...

It's the reverse where I am , the Cell C seems to have a better data connection than Vodacom . I use both a Cell C and a Vodacom sim in mine though . Epic 150 is R150 to use as you wish per month on calls , data or sms (well I think that's how it works) . They also have it available on other packages though , best to pop into an actual store and ask them what packages it's all available on .

Yup. Sounds like a plan.

Is there an app/setting whereby you can activate the screen when in standby by double-tapping it or something similar?

I think you could most probably use something like Nova launcher on it which should give you a double tap option of sorts . My wife's P8 lite has a double tap function , so the Mate 7 might have one somewhere, I don't use it as I use the fingerprint scanner the whole time as your finger just naturally rests there after a while .

Cool beans. I feel like I'd miss the ability to just poke a button on the front of the device to turn the screen on. I don't always want to have to pick the thing up to turn it on.

Well I suppose you could always just use the power/wake button on the side :D

This option only works if the firmware supports it - which the Mate 7 doesn't currently. We're hoping it arrives in the new stable release.
