I am going to do a quick review of the Huawei Media Pad10 Link+ Tablet . RSP is around the R4999 price point on Vodacom, and should be available on specific contract packagaes.
I unfortunately dont have the retail packaging, but only the unit, so no info on what it comes packaged with at this point in time. It should one would assume have the charger, headset(possibly), warranty cards etc i would imagine
The Screen is a 10.1 Inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with a 1280 x 800 resolution and a pixel density of 149ppi. At 1st glance i have to admit that i was a little disappointed with the screen Resolution. as the colours seemed a bit washed out. The viewing angles were okay, but again could have been slightly better
The tablet runs off a 1.6ghz Quad Core Cortex A9 CPU with 1GB Ram and 8GB internal storage. There is a 16GB version, but im testing the 8GB version. The tablet im testing is on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with the Emotion UI 1.6 being run above it. So you will see the Huawei UI in full flow. The emotion UI is fluid and smooth, and the response to the touch was pretty good. I have to admit, that im not really a fan of the Emotion UI, so you might want to try different launchers and so on if you dont particularly like that.
The tablet comes with the welcome addition of a micro SD card slot, which can handle cards up to about 32GB* so you can happily expand the storage if need be
*i will confirm this with Huawei in terms of whether it can go up to 64GB SD card
While the price of R4999 might seem a bit steep, it does come with LTE (Cat 4) so looking at around an upload of 50Mbps and 150Mbps on the download. I tried to search for a 10 inch tablet with LTE at below the R5000 price point, but came up short. I might not have looked hard enough, or i just missed it completely.
The tablet has 2 speaker grilles at the back for sound, but it would have been nice if this was placed on the front or at the bottom. The sound was okay when the tablet was held up, but low when placed on the back. This means that the grilles were covered, and the sound came out softer.
The camera on the Media Pad is a 3.2MP rear shooter, with 2048 x 1536 pixels. The front facing camera is VGA, so dont expect great pictures from either the back or the front. In fact, selfies would most likely be a no no. The rear camera in light conditions took okay shots, but with no LED flash, night shots will most likely not work out well.
The usual things like Bluetooth, wifi are all present, and the wifi in particular was quite strong and loaded things up pretty quickly. I am waiting on Vodacom provision my sim for LTE, so once that is sorted, ill run a quick browser speed test.
i just ran through the main aspects really, but to wrap up this short review, the Mediapad 10 Link + is a pretty solid looking tablet, build quality is very good. The Screen resolution is by no means FHD, in fact with a 149ppi the colours on the tablet seemed a bit washed out.
