so I see that Kalahari is having a "special" on the HUAWEI MediaPad 8" T1 for 999, or if you use one discount vouchers for 899.

I don't need a tablet (or maybe I do and I just don't know it), but for this price and using my ebucks it might be worth it.

but is this a decent-ish tablet? I can't find any reviews on it online, and I am assuming it is a South African special edition due to all the apps installed.

your thoughts on this tablet?

ps: I should just be able to root the tablet to get rid of the uhm, non wanted apps?

There is another thread about this in PC Hardware section. A few people have indeed bought the thing. I would link to that thread but I don't know how to do that on Tapatalk on this Huawei T1 :D

You can remove all the apps without rooting it.

The tablet is better than any tablet in this price range.

It also makes calls and send text messages ,basically a very large phone.

The performance is great ,has a snapdragon 200 under the hood.

You can also use the full internal storage for apps ,unlike some Chinese tablets where you can only use 1GB for apps.

thank you for the feedback...

...and yes, found the other, very expansive thread right after going through the motoring topics

Anyone know where i can purchase a case for this tab? preferably "on the line"

My mom bought this tab. I dont recommend it. It arrived with a faulty charger, the screen had a weird burnt in look(it was 2 toned) and that silver bezel started to peel. She organised for it to be returned to kalahari. I think they had excess stock and dont have faith in this product. She was refunded and i would never purchase this tablet or recommend it.

Well I have just orderd one just before I read your post. Hoping for the best . Hope they do not send me your mum's tablet.

My wife got one as well and it seems fairly decent, especially in that price range.

Only downside, for me at least, is that it can't take multiple users like my Nexus 7. But since she's only going to use it for studies it should be fine.

If i took sim out of afrihost mifi device and placed it in tablet, will that work?

I bought 2 of these tablets for my sons. Excellent value for the price, and the extra vouchers are a nice bonus. It's not the ideal tablet for high graphics games as a few games are crashing. But at least the kids don't mind "as long as Clash of Clans works".
