So they can use x86, that would be cool. But they also want to use their own silicon as well, so it would be interesting to see what they come up with. Another article has suggested that they may use neither ARM nor x86 but rather their own thing.

I don't think they would install Steam on a PC and call it a console. No. They'd want their own catalog. If they take the x86 route I'd expect a Linux-based OS with Vulkan graphics. That would not be a slouch....

The problem is that, if they were to use x86 for this, the USA might wake up and prevent AMD and Intel from selling chips or any designs to them.

There is absolutely no way in hell that they will design their own ISA (instruction set architecture). ARM and x86 are examples of ISAs. Just too expensive, plus then you have port compilers and things to your new ISA. AND you have to convince game developers to support your platform. AND you have to write drivers and an OS for it.

95% chance that if they do anything, it will be ARM based. ARM recently announced some high performance chips that they could use. The problem is getting something with sufficient graphical power. But even then, with modern mobile chips, they should be able to get something a little more powerful than a Nintendo Switch without too much difficulty.

Yeah I'm also thinking ARM is most likely seeing as they already have so much ground covered thanks to their smartphone business. Cutting the US tech companies out of the picture and going in-house as much as possible would be the most logical direction for them. They probably have a high performance ARM chip (akin to Apple's M1) earmarked for this project. Graphics wise, their smartphones have decent performance so expanding on that design to its own chip & VRAM would be very possible.

The difficult part would be getting dev studios on board.
