5.9% is totally fair, for a profitable, viable business.
Nevermind a bankrupt airline.
Till there is nothing left to lootHow many more empty seats will we have to buy before they put it out of its misery?
Who actually uses SAA anymore besides government ministers?
What I don't understand is - I have NEVER found an SAA flight that was cheaper than an alternative airline. So why do they have ANY customers?
Yes the unions are that far removed from reality.
People who can't get another flight on one of the other low cost carriers at short notice. Last resort bookings.
I overheard someone mention that if the public really want to get rid of the SAA tax parasite, they should book up all the seats for months ahead and then cancel all those the tickets all at once. That would break the back of the business over night.
My girlfriends sisters boyfriend is involved with union negations as part of his role at a large FMCG manufacturing company. Ridiculous wage increase demands are the norm, the union leaders know they are ridiculous and they simply don't care about companies arguments around the economy, profitability, shareholder value, etc, etc.
The 5.9% to pilots was from some multi-year legal agreement that SAA had to keep...
Must actually see if I can find reference to that agreement somewhere.
“What is even worse is their increase was negotiated far back. They get 20% every year irrespective of whether the company makes a loss.”
I think they have very lucrative agreements with travel agents, corporations and Government for business travel. I've noticed that if I want to book a flight though our company's travel agent, it's almost impossible to beat the SAA price. What I don't understand is - I have NEVER found an SAA flight that was cheaper than an alternative airline.
