And you seem to discount the former. Take a deep breath and a couple of Prozac and call your doc in the morning. If you're so concerned about ethics, then why argue in favor of something that is grey area because it suits your entertainment needs. Just because something hasn't been tested in law doesn't make it legal.

Because paying for content at a price set by the content creator is unethical?

It's interesting that you imagine me hyperventilating - perhaps a reflection of how you take piracy too seriously in general? Piracy is not even a problem imo, but a symptom of a problem. The number of people around the world paying full dollar price for Netflix and Hulu, and an additional fee for a service like UnoTelly, indicates a serious problem with how streaming services are being run.

So why not pirate then instead of pay if piracy is not an issue? And no, Prozac is not for hyperventilation :)

As the TV license people say, it's the right thing to do. Whether it's legal or illegal is besides the point.

Going back to the etolls example, it's legal, but wrong.

Right/wrong and legal/illegal rarely line up.

As he already said, paying gives them support so they can make more awesome shows and more seasons of the shows you already enjoy.

Aah, ok, and you advocate that we should all decide for ourselves? It's an interesting argument that will go round and round as nauseum. I'm just curious about why someone would feel good about paying a company for a service they spend a lot of time, effort and money preventing you from using in the first place. How are you on TV licenses?

Because I personally don't like the idea of enjoying paid content without paying for it, and I feel that doing so is unethical if there is a way to pay. Others may feel differently.

Prozac is a nonsensical medication to recommend in this context, as it is an antidepressant and not really administered by anyone in SA due to its side effects. I responded as if you knew that Ativan, Urbanol, Biral etc. were more appropriate suggestions, as they are actually in use locally and are effective anti-anxiety treatments.

But they don't want your money, and their advertisers don't want to cough up for your views.

Best to leave the prescription to a doc. Either way, if you look at what I've posted, I'm raising points and opinions, not advocating for consensus. If you want to pay for something that someone doesn't actually want to sell you and then pay a third party to mislead the company into believing that you're a legitimate client and not one of those they don't want as a client, that's on you. Everyone does what makes them sleep better at night (hopefully). My only recommendation is not to take discussions about arbitrary points too seriously.

Well at least I know I'm dealing with a kid... or are you saying you were a lawbreaker for the sake of apartheid. If so, I'm all ears. Don't tempt me with a discussion, I never shy from a good debate.

Oh please. Maybe look at your arguments before you start with childish name calling.

It's obvious you're the typical pirate that's trying to look for any excuse to justify his behaviour and bad mouth people who support creators so you don't feel guilty.

Look, you're misunderstanding of a situation does not translate into me being a troll.
YOU suggested that if I was older than 25, I would have supported apartheid based on some arb questions I'd put forward for discussion.

What else can my assumption be other than either

a) you're under 25 or
b) you're older than 25 and were an 'apartheid law breaker' as you put it

Nothing childish there whatsoever. So which is it, I'm all ears. If B - tell us more!

I never had hassles signing up with Hulu but that was 2 years ago. Its given me the least hassles with DNS services being blocked etc.
Most annoying thing though is the "which ad experience do you prefer" story.

You argument is basically what is legal is right, so I showed you an extreme example of where what is legal and what is right have nothing to do with each other.

Simple as that.

And I wasn't arguing a point of view, merely soliciting opinions. I'm hearing people saying they sleep better at night paying for the service and I'm merely asking why they'd want to pay a company for something they don't want to sell to you in the first place.
