has anybody seen this?
is it worth spending the money to go and watch at the movies?

I watched it on Saturday night.

It is a good movie and enjoyable but seems to be a blatant rip off of Battle Royale which was a Japanese movie that came out 12 years ago.

Watched it on Friday. Actually quite good. I'd give it 7/10. Dunno bout the rip off comment but I doubt it seeing as there are several hunger games books... Little bit of a girly flick but still good to watch for guys. Worth the cash of the ticket.

Make sure you go watch it during the week, when the yakking kiddies on their cellphones are absent!!!!! Its a adaption of a teen-fiction series.

You do realize the movie Hunger Games is based off the books and not some ripoff of another movie right?

I read the book first then saw the movie.

The movie is dissapointing after the book imo (5.5/10), but if I had seen the movie first I would have given it 7.5/10.

I think the big screen will give this movie a better feel so maybe go watch it before it is taken off the big screen.

Well that or read the book in the next two days (it can be doen in +- 8-10 hours as it is really not a tome) and then go see the movie.

I enjoyed it - but then everything in the movie was almost exactly as I pictured it when I read the book... :)

Not so much for me. And they left out a lot of smaller things that imo made the book a good read in the first place.

Some may argue that the Japanese movie is a rip off.

Even if we ignore that, this movie would be more suited to western audiences - just like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The original Swedish version sucked IMO. For some reason people always seem to believe that originals = better without being objective.

I take it you only read the first book?

Yes. I will read the rest of the books after my exams. Why? Does the movie focus on things that are more important later?

Also the movie does not stay true to the books. The last part of the book is crammed into 7 minutes in the movie as well as the "zombie-wolves" that are now so form of Lynxishbushpiggy....., the bread from district 12 became a riot (wtf???).

Books 2 & 3 are not very good reads. I read the last 40% of book 2 because it was so hard to finish so I skipped the first bits. I then went and bought book 3 because I wanted to see how it ends, but after skipping through most of it I only managed what I think is 10% of the book, but I am still stuck unable to complete the thing.

You might like it, but the teen romance stuff gets really bad as the story progresses and I couldn't take it.

Ah fsck. Was scared that this would turn into another twatlight series :(

I will give the second book a bash but if it does prove to be a pain to read up to even halfway I will rather spend my money on something else.

I thought this movie was going to tank when i saw the trailer. That woman with the weird hairdo seemed so out of place.
