Hey guys!

I just bought a copy of WoW last week & am in the process of leveling my new Hunter.

I just realised that since patch 3.0.2 the levelling build I was using is now obselete, leaving my poor LVL 14 Hunter in a spot of trouble.

I was wondering you guys could please help me find a new build, make suggestions or point me in the right direction.

I've looked up & down on the official forums & have come up with pretty much nothing.

Please help!

Thanks!

oh i thought you were talking about the online wow not the battle chess. johannesburg guys - where can i buy the wow game and at what price? is it possible to buy the game seperately from the expansion packs?

Hi, I was refering to "online WoW". Battle Chest, is the collective package for World Of Warcraft and its expansion The Burning Crusade.

As for where you can buy the game in JHB, try CNA, Incredible Connection, Look & Listen, BT Games.

Could someone please post something substantial on builds, as I am utterly confused on what to spec when I level.

I've been looking at builds online, but they dont seem to be level friendly.

Anyone know any good & current Hunter sites, please?

You can hardly have a build problem at lvl14, its only 4 talent points. Put them in beast mastery and let your pet pwn. Hunters are the most awesome lvling class, they can solo almost everything.
And at lvl40, you can wear mail, what more could you want.

You can buy the WOW retail back and Burning Crusade expansion for about R130-R150 each. The WOW retail pack includes 30days of game time. A couple of weeks ago, Musica had a special with them on sale for about R120 each. If you have a problem getting hold of them, PM me and I will see what I can do.

Dont bother with leveling guides ;) build your character as you feel fit to do. As a hunter you can level to 70 without spending one single tallent point, so why complicate things for yourself.
Nice things to have while your leveling would be 5% crit from MM tree, Range from SV tree, and rest in BM tree. At level 60-70 you can respeck your hunter to whatever you have discovered works best for you.
Play around with the tallents and actualy learn what each of them do, then you don't need to follow stupid guides.

Yup... as stated earlier, early stages of a hunter you cant really go wrong with spending talent points really.

Things you should consider for leveling :

1 - Try and spend points in maximizing range

This will help you with pulling single mobs from packs from a distance for questing purposes... and also allow you to shoot a shot or two exstra before mobs reach you. You wanna kill mobs before they reach you. Once they are in melee range, your hunter will suck.

2 - Invest points in boosting your pet up. If you can tank a mob successfully with your pet, it means you dont have to worry about the mob being on top of you... you can nuke safely while your pet absorbs the damage from your mob you are attacking.

3 - Pick the right pet for leveling... eg. it might be very cool to have say a bird / owl pet, but its not very practical when you have to pull one or two mobs out, and your pet does an AOE screech pulling packs of 10 mobs out at once. If you wanna tank with your pet... get a proper tanking pet.

4 - The hunter class is insane for leveling, and although a lot of people might disagree , I am one to believe in enchanting / pimping your gear up every few levels. Dont go overboard, but invest in a enchant here and there. Better your stats, the more damage you deal, the more damage you deal the faster the mob dies. Faster mob die, faster you get XP.

The real serious talent builds only come into effect when you go pretty deep into the respective trees. So dont worry too much about talent spec's at this point in time... just enjoy the time leveling.

Where did you buy a copy and for how much?

Music is having a sale on WoW & TBC, I believe someone quoted the prices above me. The sale is still going on...

Although you can get the Battle Chest from Look & Listen. Not sure if its still on sale.

Cavendish in CT has it for R325.00

Thanks for the breakdown & tips! Its MUCH appreciated! :D

I do most of the points on your list. I just wasn't sure if BM was a feasible tree to go down since the new patch. I do think its the most fun, having played with a few friends Hunters in Arena, BM seems like the most entertaining & versatile build...

I also agree on the practical pet choice route. I'm off to tame a bear whilst I level, however once I ding 60 or is it 61 I REALLY want a Kurken (2 headed dog beasty)

LOL I'm planning on pimping my char every 9th level, ie. doing the bg's getting the relevant bg items, semi twinking if I can afford it, then going onto the next 9th level... Seems practical that way & I get to save on some cash...

For now I'm just enjoying the whole WoW experience. Might reroll Horde, my NE seems a lil boring.

No problem... once you reach 70 / 80, the whole talent tree saga becomes a art to understand and master. There is so much stupid little things you have to understand under hunter dps mechanics to build a dps machine that it will sound chaotic in the beginning.

It requires a lot of reading up and understanding how you make your total damage stats. The difference between white damage / yellow damage / shot rotations, mana conservation tricks, haste limitations, Global cooldowns, pet spec'ing, focus management, pet micro management, scope choices, squeezing stats out of your character for your respective build, bleh the list goes on and on and on.

My money is still on the BM tree once we reach level 80. The MM tree in current form is pretty much on par with BM dps output. But once the new nerfs kick in... poor MM / SV builds are gonna feel it. :)

I've been pouring over every Hunter thread & piece of info I can find, about shot rotations, conserving Mana, something about beating drums & Leatherworking... I actually find it appealing & not too daunting.

By any chance, do you know of any Hunter specific forums apart from the Official WoW one?

Thanks again for your advice. You've actually inspired me to continue with my Hunter now. Cheers!

Ummm yes... the problem with hunter dps / theorycrafting sites, they are kinda hard to find nowdays. There are so many floating around and most of them are posted full of garbage and crap it's hard to find what is actually good advice.

The elitist jerks forums are not what they use to be, you kinda need to filter through them and if you have been reading / following them for a long time, you sort of know who knows their hunter dps mechanics inside out, and who to listen to.

Also another thing to keep in mind, is that our entire hunter class got revamped since the last patch. So there are so many new things people are still testing / trying out, it will take at least another 4 / 5 months before the theorycrafters settle on the best build / rotations etc. The whole hasting thing sort of backfired on us, and hopefully when the new patch hits and they nerf our hasting, can we safely focus on haste again. The autoshot clipping thing is a mess currently. Its so bugged, and there is such nasty workarounds to get it working properly, you will be labeled as the biggest sheep breaker in a raid if you apply the recommend workarounds.

Look there are a few good sites you can look around, but be warned, there are so many huntards out there posting crap, you gotta know who the big boys are with hunter dps mechanics. I tend to find more useful hunter class info from the Beta / WoTLK elitist section + US hunter class forums... sometimes on TKA something from select hunter theorycrafters.
Pets are a different field on their own. Very few sites with really good information.

Oo, I hate those haste nerfs already :( Biggest one will be the windfury totem that does not affect hunters anymore :(
I have reworked my own items quite a bit the last few days, and have now a lovely 180 haste rating ;) Going over 3k dps on a boss fight aint a problem anymore, and with the boost in Voley 3-8k dps on trash is possible ;)
Hunters may even now be a viable aoe grind class. In fact I have grinded 72-73 on beta already just using voley...

Well not entirely true ;) Correct wording would be, MM + SV hunters will be feeling it the worst !
Well we will be affected as well. 16% haste is a knock even for BM hunters. But it should happen, as bringing a 3.0 s bow down to 1.3 s shoot time is just too much ;)

With all the haste gear available in wotlk we will be hitting the haste cap anyway, without the shaman totem ;)
