Whats the best way for a hunter to beat a rogue once he is in melee range?
I usually lay a trap and try get distance but doesnt work..they just seem to hit me once and im stunned then cant do nothing as they hack away at me.
From a distance ill kill..well u know how it goes..but close up haha not so easy:o

Sadly not a lot. Rogues are the single worst enemy a hunter has.
There is very very little you can do once a rogue is on top of you, and applies his poisons.

However there is a few things that **might** help you survive.

Activate your masters call if you see the rogue go into stealth and coming towards you.

If you see him coming to you, dot the bugger with a serpent sting. Keep them in combat.

Free action potion helps a LOT. So having a few of these potions always on you when you enter a BG can mean the difference between life and death when a rogue is gonna attack you. If you see a rogue coming to you and he enters stealth... drink that potion. 30 sec's will give you enough time to get close to another player that can help you should the bugger jump you.

As a marksman hunter the one thing that can help, is to macro your raptor strike + wingclip together and also you would need to double disengage... (Hence I said double disengage... Disengage --> readiness ---> disengage.)
Also keep a frost trap out around your feet if you suspect one is close by.
Always play with detect invisible units on in your tracking.

Very few survival hunters spec scatter shot... but to be honest if you face a decent rogue it wont help you... they will dismantle you leaving you with no weapon to even fire....

Sadly this is one area I will just run for my life or stick close by to other players that can help should they jump you.

The last option is to make sure you have full HP... Remember rogues are cowards ! They always gank the players with low HP... they would never dare attack someone with full HP :D
Or if you want them to run away in fear, just ensure you have your PVP trinket that removes all slowing / stunning effects. Rogues are renowned to run away like the cowards they are, the second you get to fight back. :D

Edit : Oh yes, next patch deterrence will work from behind now as well... So we no longer have to face the melee dps'er to make deterrence work.

Personally, as a rogue I feel I can defeat a class. What I do absolutely hate though, is if I am busy with another opponent and a hunter just starts opening on me. That puts me in a bad situation where I usually won't win unless I do get to run away, depending on cooldowns for escape.

The sting is not a bad problem, if I need to get away I will its but a little anoyance. same with hunter's mark. One thing though, is the beast specced hunters with beastial wrath, that is very very bad for any rogue, as that will put you in a nice position to get away from a rogue. Traps are not a problem, rogues see them miles away, and also one can see when you plant them. Flares work well though, I usually leave hunters alone that throw their flare and stand on it. All I can do is sap you if I have a pvp spec enabled.

As for rogues only attacking players with low hp...while a lot do do that, I like the challenage of taking a class from 100% hp to 0% and see how fast I can do that and at the same time losing a little as possible hp myself. That is my benchmark to see how good the player is I am attacking. I have at times even killed people between a bunch of other allies, and while its possible its not always very probable, its usually a long shot. But make no mistake, a good rogue can take out almost any class 1on1 if played perfectly (you might need decent gear though).

But remember, flare + deterrance and if you are beast spec, I hate that spec.

Get yourself a crab to help lock him down. Not much I know but timing your defensive cooldowns will help.

For myself (as a DK) I will normally ghoul stun if jumped on by a rogue, then use cooldowns to get away as well as putting as many dots as I can on the rogue. Bit tougher as a hunter though ....

I must be honest I am very very guilty of this. My utter hatred of rogues have conditioned me to always attack a rogue first. If I see him attacking a fellow hordie of mine in BG's I will stop, even dismount and help the guy out.

I know just how sucky it feels sitting there, taking it while the rogue slashes you from behind and you have no means to even fight back.

If there are 10 allies in front of me and there is one rogue... I dont care about the healers even... I open up with an aimed shot on the rogue, get the 50% healing debuff up, and just nuke with all my trinkets + dps boosting abilities ticking away.

Warriors I dont mind, because they will fight to the death... rogues on the other hand.... hmmmm vanish ----> runs away ----> licks wounds ---> waits behind bush in stealth for next low HP dude to come past.

/spit :D

Now I am deffo going to roll a rogue!!! :D

May our latency screw you over sooooo badly !!! hehe :D

I can already see Jase throwing a brick through his screen when those errors start popping up on his screen "Not behind target... target not in range, Not behind target "

Friends dont let Friends roll rogues !!!!

Trinket, Wingclip, Disengage.

Cloak.Shadowstep.

:(

Rogues were actually beatable 1v1 before that whole stupid cloak of idiocy thing. Ah well. /afk, make a sammich.

keep flares up 100% of the time, stand on iceblock trap. if he trinkets scatter > disengage, lay another trap if possible kite away. make sure to time masters call while the slowing trap is down. USE YOUR PET. so many hunters dont use their abilities.

dont trinket cheap shot, trinket kidney. oh ye, hunters mark on rogue keeps then from disappearing too(or it did in s4)

keep flares up 100% of the time.oh ye, a hunter without scatter shot is a moron. Duel wield and put weapon chain on 1 of them. that way they cant disarm you.

Just to correct your statement they "cant" disarm you if you have a weapon chain. Nope.. its false. They can still disarm you... it just halves the time period you are without a weapon. So scatter shot wont help you if you are disarmed.

A way to beat a rogue ....
Hmmmm wel from my point of view as prot paladin, just spam holy shield and have retribution aura on and watch him kill himself LOL. :P

Also helps if you see a rogue approaching and you manage to disarm him first just before he reaches you.

Ironic, even though they wanted to gank you, they end up running away.

I am very happy about the deterrence change coming in 3.2 it really will help hunters against melee classes.

thought it was only melee weapons

havent played a hunter seriously since s4 though

If I catch you in melee range, you're toast :D It's pretty much a beating to prove to you that those melee weapons you ninja'd from us are worthless to you anyway. :p

Dismantling you, blinding you, kidney shotting & crippling poison pretty much keeps you side by side with us. :)

So far the only 2 classes I've managed to stunlock to death while they were still mounted was: Druid / Hunter

What really? I can do it to more classes but it also really depends on their gear...hp pool/armor

Well, mages blink out of stunlocks - and with 600ms lag I cant interrupt a lock's fear casts. I've never bothered with shammies ... which leaves the plate classes. :(

So in other words there is nothing you can do i must just stand there and die? where's the balance/fairness in that!!??

Thats the roll of the class, each class has their enemies that they always lose to, and some has the classes they can just roll over.
