Hurricane Irma

Fark people, this was a shyte storm of note!

We stayed with our daughter and were pretty content there and watching the storm come in and knowing we were together and safe. Eating boerewors and sausage rolls etc and their variety of Nik Naks and pretty much doing nothing except watch the weather reports. The day after the storm hit, we took a walk around our immediate area and boy were we in for a surprise. Big trees ripped out of the ground at their roots. Branches broken out of trees lying everywhere. We left Delray Beach for Boca Raton on the monday and everywhere you looked you saw huge and I mean huge trees pulled out of the ground. Lamp poles on cars and buildings. Branches and sign posts lying everywhere. neon type signboards advertising businesses, smashed to pieces. The destruction is everywhere.

We get home and although the apartment complex had lost its 2 sign boards and a power line and some tree branches, everything else looked ok. Our internet and cable was out for a few days and kinda only came on and stayed on last night. We find a butches knife outside our front door and suspect someone tried to break in during the storm. We only found out 2 days ago that it was the immediate neighbour who was using the knife to cut open a box of lights and must have dropped it in an attempt to get indoors.

Our Walmart is only now getting themselves together and they have nothing in the store except a few things people obviously didn't want. The shelves and fridges were bare. Publix is business as usual.

We survived or first major hurricane here in the USA.

Thanks for the wishes and the waves and hello's, much appreciated.

Not that I know of. Didn't hear or see any news coverage in the areas we moved about in but that's not to say there was none.

Jisslaaik, what kind of a South African are you? You mean to tell me you didn't score a big screen out of Irma? Nee man.

Don't remind me lol
Maria set to hit Haiti's North around Friday when I travel... eish. Hopefully it's petered out a bit.

Zupta has nothing on our ginger in office.

What happens in terms of insurance Wayne? Do they cover things like this?

"Dineo" and such. Also we don't get hurricanes we simply call them tropical cyclones. Depending on which ocean they form makes it a typhoon, tropical cyclone or hurricane.

i actually don't know. lucky for us we only had rain come into the apartment on a corner of the office and it ran into a drawer with our electronic cables etc. I do not know if we have renters insurance or if we can claim from our landlord.

What is happening now in florida and maybe other states is that banks are foregoing fees on late payments. Some cell phone companies are giving credit due to loss of reception. Some internet cable providers might be giving credit (I got $26) for a few days offline. There is also credit and or vouchers from FPL (electric company) for loss of electricity and food stuff.

The entities are really helping those in need, which is nice.

Hurricane Irma death toll rises to 72 in Florida

Hurricane Irma killed 72 people in Florida when it battered the southern state on September 10, according to an updated death toll that includes figures from individual counties.

Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) spokesman Alberto Moscoso confirmed an official toll of 54 to AFP Tuesday.

But this figure does not include eight known victims in the Florida Keys, or 10 elderly victims who died in a nursing home north of Miami.

County coroners in Monroe, which includes the Keys, have not yet confirmed an official number of fatalities to the FDEM, but a post on the county’s Twitter account said eight people died during the storm.
