the Golf has very similar performance and fuel consumption figures to the Prius, as well as comparitive passive safety features. Stock standard the Golf is about R30 000 less than the Prius, but when you add in all the optional extras on the Golf to bring it up to the Prius’ spec level the figure changes dramatically.
The Prius comes standard with these features which we had to add to the Golf: Satnav, stability control, leather seats, climate control, 6-disc CD changer, fog lights and 16″ alloy rims. As far as I’m aware you can’t get bluetooth cell phone integration as part of the Golf’s satnav package. Additionally, we need to add in an extended maintenance plan for the Golf, considering the Prius’ 195 000km/8 year plan (the best extended plan you can get on the Golf is a 160 000km/5 years).
All in all, the Golf comes in at R304 471.00 compared to the Prius’ R269 000.00.
