Hyundai Motor has unveiled the new Bayon with a bold and robust design. The extensive list of intelligent connectivity and safety features that make it stand out in the B-SUV segment has also been refined with interior and tech upgrades.

Robust new look

The new Hyundai Bayon boasts a sharp and distinctive design, in a crossover SUV body type designed specifically for Europe. A front LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights) bar has been integrated to create a Seamless Horizon light signature. The shape and pattern of the front bumper, as well as the radiator grille, have been enhanced to create a bolder and more rugged appearance. The rear also features a redesigned bumper, while newly designed 16- and 17-inch wheels have been added.

Hyundai Bayon has been praised for a stylishly cool design that elevates it from the crowd, achieved through unexpected and eye-catching proportions and strong graphic features. At the front, the newly designed grille opens at the bottom, creating a solid stance. On the side, a dynamic shoulder provides a wedge-shaped look. To the rear, arrow-shaped lights underline the pillar dynamics, creating a wide stance with their far-out position. Overall, angular lines, triangular shapes, and horizontal lines in both the vehicle body and the light architecture emphasise width and give Bayon a strong, modern appearance.

A total of nine exterior colours are available, including four new colours: Lumen Grey Pearl, Meta Blue Pearl, Lucid Lime Metallic and Vibrant Blue Pearl. An optional two-tone roof in Phantom Black is also available with several exterior colours.

Updated Ford Puma rival adds larger, dual infotainment screens as standard

The Hyundai Bayon has gained upgraded technology plus updates to its interior as part of a facelift for 2024 – its first update since the model launched in 2021.

The i20-based Bayon is now claimed to “maximise front and rear passenger comfort”, with the biggest changes coming in the form of new standard equipment.

A pair of dual 10.25in digital screens are now included as standard, with the added benefit of wireless phone charging and smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The brand has also added two USB-C ports, plus a USB-A port for charging older phones. In addition to customisable interior ambient lighting, the Bayon is equipped with an eight-speaker Bose sound system.

Other equipment includes a host of driver assistance technology, such as lane assist, forward collision assist, navigation-based adaptive cruise control and blindspot monitoring.

Hyundai Bayon has facelift, reminds us of its existence

Oh yeah, it’s that tiny crossover Hyundai makes! Will this fresh one be less forgettable?

Anyone else forget that the Bayon - Hyundai’s littlest crossover - was a thing? It was revealed three years ago amid much fanfare, but ever since the launch it’s become the automotive equivalent of a cave-dwelling hermit.

Well, er, it’s getting a mid-life facelift, and this is it. And no surprises for guessing what the updates are: more LEDs, new grille and bumper, plus a splash of new safety tech. Surely a car this anonymous needed more of an overhaul?

Inside, the 10.25-inch infotainment screen can be twinned with an equally wide digital instrument cluster, and Hyundai promises different graphics depending on which drive mode you’ve chosen.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, of course, and there’s wireless phone charging as well as a mix of USB-C and -A ports to suit all kinds of device. Over-the-air updates will keep the nav up to date.

The facelifted Hyundai Bayon’s UK specs and pricing have been announced. The baby crossover is now only available as a 1.0-litre turbocharged ICE, costing from £22,480.

That's right, Hyundai has done away with the 118bhp engines and all the mild hybrid (MHEV) gubbins – just like it did with the refreshed i20. Now, one 98bhp petrol engine is available, with 127lb ft torque when coupled with a six-speed manual, or 147lb ft when mated to the the seven-speed automatic 'box.

Minimised engine choices aside, the Bayon’s first model refresh is pretty light. The small SUV’s inoffensive styling remains, er, inoffensively stylish. It gets redesigned bumpers at the front and back. The front also incorporates new LED headlights, Hyundai’s Horizon daytime running lights and a new grille mesh design.
There are only three trims now too (the SE Connect has been done away with): Advance, Premium and Ultimate.
