As the header states, is Hyundai a good car make? Obviously they had their problems to begin with, but a number of years on has this been sorted?
Are they a reputable car make? Can I trust their servicing and after-sales?

The other half was looking at looking at getting the i20 (1.6) and she seems to think Hyundai are good enough? Any advise? Please?

(On a related note, what will a guy look like driving this? - Obviously I will have to drive it sometimes and well the idea of a guy in a i20 seems )

The Sonata and Tiburon models weren't that bad.
But generally their design concepts are ugly!

As for being reputable . . . I would say, yes!

They're great

I've owned one (Getz) since 2004 with very little trouble.
Great cars. Although as the previous comment suggests, maybe not the prettiest.

Don't expect a Hyundai to excite. As far as reliable A to B transport goes, you can do a lot worse though. They offer decent value for money & definitely aren't looked down upon like they were 10 years ago.

I agree on the looks front, but sometimes pretty has to be sacrificed for practical and cost-effective.

So in terms of servicing, any problems?

___

So effecitively I want to ask, can I get her the i20 and not have to worry about it breaking down, something going wrong with the electric system or any other mishap? (I don't want to say I should have... - it will be holding a important asset in my life :p)

i'm looking at getting a second hand Hyundai, but an older model

price wise, a new i20 is about the same as a 1.6 ford fiesta, and quite honestly the fiesta takes it in interior and exterior

Just for info, Hyundai/Kia is the only motor company that showed a profit in this year. Tells you quite a lot. The time of cheap Korean cars is gone.

If i had a choice i would have gone for the Ford Fiesta. More or less the same price. What's the price of a i20 R170 -180K ? You got a lot to choose from. If you look at Korean motors, take a look at the new Kia Cerato as well. Stunning car for more or less the same money.

The other thing to keep in mind is the warrenty. Korean cars have the best warrenty by far. Ive been involved with Kia some time and I can tell you theres no moaning from the company when something goes wrong. They jsut replace the part with a new one.

But ya, your choice.

We have an automatic Atos - love it. First automatic car that I actually enjoy. Best value for money in its price (power steering / automatic / air-con / electric windows) and it costs the same as an entry level Golf.

My next car, or 2nd car will be a Hyundai.

Oh, and the problems they experienced was not due to Hyundai itself. The cars where original shipped to Botswana for assembly (required the mounting of the tyres and minor parts, not complete assembly). The assembler did not excercise the correct quality control. This also resulted in spare shortages.

After this issues was resolved (10yrs ago), they never had these problems again. (My Dad was in the automative distribution trade during this time and shed much light on the issue).

My wife had an Atos for more than 4 years. It was a brilliant little car and never gave ANY issues. Stood up to wear-and-tear very well and looked almost brand new when we sold it off earlier this week.

What makes a car boring?

Does encrusting it in diamonds, putting "wings" on the back and fancy mags on make it "exciting"?

Why the hell would anyone want exciting if it means losing reliability and value for money?

You would look like an idiot in a Hyundai. But thats just my opinion.

But they now one of the biggest car makers in the world, I think they the 4th best!
Their resale value is on the up, quality and reliability is up there with the best and they have a 5 year warranty on all their cars.

Tp sugar coat Hyundai, you can say they next in line after Toyota.

They are good cars.

Why can these companies not spend a bit of money on styling?

We have had a hyundai elantra for about 7 years now ( It is 10 years old). To date it has been really really good. No major problems and quite fuel efficient.

They are the new "peoples cars" because people can still afford them and their quality is very good. In the last year or so I have had the chance to try out a few of their new models and they are very impressive taking into account what you pay for them.

Definitely good and my next car will most likely be a Hyundai.

Anyways Hyundai isn't what it was 10 years ago, they are now the top 5 selling motorcar company in the world. Great cars.

Google: Hyundai Genesis .. Sexiest car I've seen in years
