As the header states, is Hyundai a good car make? Obviously they had their problems to begin with, but a number of years on has this been sorted?
Are they a reputable car make? Can I trust their servicing and after-sales?

The other half was looking at looking at getting the i20 (1.6) and she seems to think Hyundai are good enough? Any advise? Please?

(On a related note, what will a guy look like driving this? - Obviously I will have to drive it sometimes and well the idea of a guy in a i20 seems )

Had a Getz, best car I ever owned.

Sister has an Atos - runs on a sniff of an oil rag

Aunt has the i10 - Happy with it.

Uncle runs bakkies, give no hassles.

Kia/Hyundai is the only car company that worries Toyota, to quote the the CEO:

"They do everthing the same way we do."

I'm thinking of getting a 2008 hyundai accent 1.6 gls high spec for R100k.Apparently it produces 82kw.I cant make up my mind between this car and the new ford ikon 1.6 trend 75kw.similar pricing.

The Hyundai Genesis and Genesis Coupe, and the new Sonata are good looking cars, and as others have said here, their warranty is tops.

From the same stable, the Kia Forte Koup is a good looker.

I wonder if any of these will be marketed in SA.

OMG why???

Anyways Hyundai isn't what it was 10 years ago, they are now the top 5 selling motorcar company in the world. Great cars.

Google: Hyundai Genesis .. Sexiest car I've seen in years

I smell some bias there ;)

He has good reason to be. I have never own one but have recommended the i10 to a few people. My sister bought one (HS model) and it is very good. Before that she had a Jazz and apparently the Koreans are catching up in terms of quality.

Just for info, Hyundai/Kia is the only motor company that showed a profit in this year. Tells you quite a lot. The time of cheap Korean cars is gone.

If i had a choice i would have gone for the Ford Fiesta. More or less the same price. What's the price of a i20 R170 -180K ? You got a lot to choose from. If you look at Korean motors, take a look at the new Kia Cerato as well. Stunning car for more or less the same money.

The other thing to keep in mind is the warrenty. Korean cars have the best warrenty by far. Ive been involved with Kia some time and I can tell you theres no moaning from the company when something goes wrong. They jsut replace the part with a new one.

But ya, your choice.

and they have a far better service/maintenance plan than the Ford.

In August we looked at the Fiesta, Suzuki Swift and the i20 for my wife. Settled on the i20 for R150k on the road costs. That's the 1.3l model which pushes out the same kw (74) as the Swift 1.5l GLS (comparing specs) and the Swift was R10k more. The Fiesta (R170k) was just out of our price range if we wanted the same features as the i20. Interestingly, the i20 1.6l model pushes out a mean 91kw!

In the end we got R120k for our Focus trade in and paid the R30k difference for the i20 and we were very impressed with the service we got from the dealership... they even phoned last week to wish the car a happy 3 month birthday :D
