Hyundai Ioniq

Let's Appreciate The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Hatchback's Cooling System Feature That Makes It Look Grille-Less

You wanna see CLASS A active grille shutters?! Of course you d

What I do know is that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has pretty much no grille or even a fake grille (aside from that slit above; and you could call that big glossy black surface between the headlights a fake grille, I suppose).

I really dig this design, and I just wanted to make sure that Hyundai cooling system engineers and designers get recognition for this. And that you readers were aware of its existence. It’s important.

New Hyundai Ioniq 7 large SUV to offer 'premium lounge' interior

New images preview concept version of BMW iX and Tesla Model X rival

Hyundai will unveil a Seven concept car at the Los Angeles motor show later this month that will preview the Ioniq 7 - and has promised that the large SUV will feature a design that "dares to diverge" from industry traditions.

The new BMW iX and Tesla Model X rival will join the Ioniq 5 crossover in the Korean firm's new dedicated electric vehicle sub-brand and, as a large SUV, will be critical for success in the US and Chinese markets. It is due to be launched in full next year.

Like the Ioniq 5, the new model will be built on the Hyundai Motor Group's advanced e-GMP platform, which is designed to be hugely flexible to adopt a range of battery sizes and powertrain layouts. The platform, which features 800V charging technology, will underpin a range of vehicles from Hyundai and sibling brands Kia and Genesis.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5's Taillights Are A Reminder That Hyundai-Kia Are Kicking Taillight Ass

We're really entering a golden age of automotive lighting, so open your eyes

Last night, I was conducting my weekly workshop about how to incorporate side marker lighting into erotic fiction at America’s twelfth-best automotive lighting semi-legal hash bar, Amberflash. I was workshopping a very intense scene with a writer involving light bondage and a ‘68 Firebird rear side marker lamp when I felt a cold hand clamp down on my shoulder. “You,” said a voice behind me. “What are the Koreans paying you to say good things about Hyundai-Kia lighting?” This **** again.

I turned to see a man I only know as Double-Filament Francis, a notoriously xenophobic automotive lighting enthusiast.

“Last week you were all up on Kia’s junk about the Kia Sportage lights. I looked in your notebook here, and I see all these sketches of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 lights. What’s Hyundai got on you, you overrated sack of crap?”

Double-Filament was very drunk, and, I knew from experience, very dangerous. I had to keep him calm but still make my point.

Hyundai Seven Concept

Hyundai Motor Company revealed SEVEN, the new sport utility electric vehicle (SUEV) concept at 2021 AutoMobility LA.

Following the 45 concept in 2019 and the Prophecy concept in 2020, the SEVEN concept opens a new chapter for the IONIQ brand, Hyundai's dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) showcase. These differentiated design and technology innovations prioritize customer values over industry norms. SEVEN is also a clear representation of Hyundai's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2045.

"The SEVEN concept demonstrates Hyundai's creative vision and advanced technological development for our electrified mobility future," said José Muñoz, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America. "Its innovative interior space, eco-friendly powertrain and cutting-edge safety and convenience technologies reveal an exciting future for Hyundai SUV customers."

The Hyundai SEVEN concept previews a future Ioniq SUV

Strip away the “lounge-like interior” and this could be Hyundai’s next EV

Hyundai has unveiled the SEVEN concept (their caps lock, not ours) at the LA Auto Show, and the first thing to note is that it previews an upcoming EV SUV that you’ll actually be able to buy. That’ll be called the Ioniq 7, although we'd wager that you'd worked that out already.

So, what will make it through to production? Well, the SEVEN concept is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform that also underpins the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Expect a slightly longer wheelbase than those two though to take the 7 into the class above – it’ll be a full-sized SUV rather than a crossover. Hyundai says that the concept gets over 300 miles of range and 350kW fast charging, which is entirely plausible for the production car too.

New Hyundai Seven concept is large, lounge-style electric SUV

New "category-bending" electric SUV set to arrive as the Ioniq 7 in 2024

The Seven concept is an outlandish and futuristic preview of Hyundai's third bespoke electric car, which will go on sale in 2024 as a large, long-range rival to Volvo's upcoming XC90 replacement.

The Korean marque labels the concept as a "category-bending" electric SUV, highlighting its aerodynamically optimised styling and extended wheelbase as departures from the design norms of conventionally fuelled contemporaries. Some of its more radical design cues will be toned down for production - but the recently launched Ioniq 5 remains largely faithful to 2019's straight-edged 45 concept and the Ioniq 6 looks to be heading into production with minimal alterations from the Prophecy - so expect the showroom-ready Ioniq 7 to look a lot like this.
