Hey guys,

I need advise on this TV deal. Ok so I have this friend :) who can organise a FULL HD 50'' Hyundai Plasma for R8k.
The TV will be used for gaming (ps3), DVD’s and HD PVR.
I don’t have the specs of the TV and neither does my mate.
So the question here is whether the TV is worth 8k or should I spend 6K and get a 42’’ LG from Game or Makro and does anyone have a Hyundai Plasma or know of anyone who can comment on its quality. My mates claims that the TV is made by Samsung and branded Hyundai. I have seen other models which are delivered in a Samsung box but are delivered with other branding.

Thanks

Not 100% sure, but almost certain it will be a Sammy screen. They manufacture for a lot of people. Give Samsung a call and ask? I have seen a telefunken Full HD plasma too for R8K. Seems rather good.

Strange, I also have a friend who says he can organise a Hyundai plasma for R8k. Must be someone out there selling these. Hmmmm.

Most likely a Samsung panel.

If you would buy a Hyundai Car or Microwave...then buy the TV screen.

It seems like you are wary of buying a TV from someone who makes Motor Cars and sometimes Microwaves....

I know i wouldnt.

It will need an oil change every six months!
lol

Oh yeah, don't know if you noticed but an Argentina/Germany final is impossible since they're playing each other in the quarter finals.................

i predicted the same damn thing before it started....oh well.

My prediction: Argentina 1 - Brazil 0.

But we digress. So, about those Kia plasmas............

I have one, got it last week. it has the LG panel and i have had no issue what so far. Have it hooked up to a Denon 2310ci Amp and i am using a PS3 as my blue ray player. Image quality is brilliant. I bought mine from Direct Deals in Wood Mead for R9K. It was one of the only brands which has a 42month Guarantee. Sony LG Samsung only have a 12 month Warranty.
II think it is definitely worth it.

Samsung and Sony and i think LG, are running 3 year guarentees.

It has a Samsung Panel:

I purchased it and then swapped for the Telefunken 50" FUll HD.much slimmer design...same price. Samsung manufactures for Telefunken as well.

How's that Telefunken? I saw it on demo at a store, next to some smaller LED Tv's and it looked much better. I know it's all about the input, but i think they were on the same feed.

Oh the Telefunken is pretty damn awesome...much much slimmer design..also has a Samsung panel.
No lag what so ever whilst watching any of the games.
But the true beauty comes to life when you pop in a blu-ray like Avatar and the 1080p kicks in!!!
LCD will never beat colour depth and realism of Plasma.
These newer plasmas have a VERY VERY long life span!!!
If you watch 8hrs of tv per day, a plasma will last you +-25years....but hey...everybody will upgrade their plasmas or lcds in about 5-7yrs anyway.

Remember with Plasmas..no matter what brand, when you first switch it on, you must lower the contrast and brightness to less the 50% for the first 100 hours of use, so that the phosphurs don't ghost the screen. Plasmas glow much brighter and give alot of heat for the first 100 hours.

LEDs are actually LCDs..don't be fooled by marketing BS. Instead of a constant back light, manufacturers are using LED lights on the sides of the screen, so that they can now make LCDs thinner. LED works exactly the same was as LCD (because they are the same). If my memory serves me correctly Samsung was actually fined hefty penalties in the UK for advertising tvs as just "LED tv". Reason being, is that an LCD and LED tv is essentially the same thing. Sony, LG etc all advertise their sets in the UK as "LED edge lit" tvs.

Just my 2 cents ;)
