Does that not defeat the object of a "always on connection though".. It drives me insance that we all have to find ways to "bend" the rules to enjoy our ADSL experiance..

Maybe the last 5 gig downloads in the last 2 days is the same way of bending the rules..

But I dont see how our reseting our modems/router is effecting anyone else.. but I do see how the download spree is effecting us all.. OR am I really wrong?

Kalvaer my sisters husband is a friend of one of telkoms highest execs in the chain of adsl and according to him the reason telkom is introducing the hardcap is because of companies using adsl between their branches(instead of the usual diginet) or host web-sites using adsl.(they aren't too worried about abusers, the shaping is keeping most of them at bay)

And according to him this is unacceptable to Telkom(duh they are losing money). This whole Nov 1 thing is about diginet.

Btw I also think going to the extremes like these guys is wrong but I don't think they are to blame...

Oh and I am not flaming you ;) (just my opinion)

Boys Looks like we going against a seasoned pro, and that his flamed enough at the abusers to know our responses we can either assume
a) He was never really loved as a kid and now wants to get back at the world
b)He has mixed emotions as he doesn't know if he like boys or girls, so is thus angry with "the Man"
c)He is lonely, and deep down it hurts especially on those cold nights...
d) he has no life and nothing better to do then try and make himself look better than others
e) He has the need to be different, "i never over use my account", but meanwhile 95% dont abuse while the other 5% does, so who really is different.

Anyway if yo want to abuse thats your decision, if you wanna live life inside the lines thats your choice too. So do whetever you feel bests suits your personality. :D

I would have called him/her a "close friend of the family" but it is an excellent point. Inter-branch traffic with vpn's and voip must be capable of reaching some outrageous levels.
 
must be totally "unacceptable" and reaching some "epic" levels of "abuse"!!!!

I never flamed.. I started off with stating that these posts where getting old since they happen every month. Many have posted the same above. You then went on straight to insulting me... Nice.. Please read the 12 laws to flaming ( EDIT Its law 2 and 12 you should be checking BTW) Great JOB :) I was thinking that I could respond to each of the points you posted... But that would force me to drop to your level and I wont do that. Funny how in life when people know they are doing something wrong they get defensive and go straight for the kill (or sometimes attempt to and fail miserably)

@ Gnome. I can fully understand that, But it just goes to prove that Telkom dont know a single thing do they. Rest your router at 7:00 AM in the morning, It will then reset at 7:00 PM and then again at 7:00 AM, and continue to do so. Most companies can survive with that and still use the VPN right through the day. Secondly Get a router that supports Virtual Servers and DDNS. Register at a DDNS site for free. Bingo you have a HTTP/FTP/EMAIL/ETC server running behind your router 24 hours a day none stop, and telkom can change your IP every hour it will not make a difference, you service will never go down!

I am tired of people bragging about how much they abused the system. Your not a rebel, your not from the 50's, its not cool to have a comb in your pocket, putting your siggies in your rolled up sleeve does not mean you can dance or sing like John Travolta. Stop trying to prove something.

If you didnt abuse the system, we wouldnt be put on a per-gig pricing structure, if you didnt abuse the system normal people and gamers could play without having to wonder wtf your gonna make telkom do in the future.

Fine Telkom is full of donkey ****. But what is the use in making life **** for the rest of us thats also paying our bills? If you buy a 30 gig account your more than welcome to use 30gigs, but whats so cool in using 37gigs?

I am the bad man it is entirely my fault everything the per gig billing the shaping. So where do you want me so you can beat the **** out of me and then you will all feel better and everything will go back to the way it was no per gig billing no port shaping free adsl line rental and telkom will upgrade all lines to 1meg. :(
 
Aside from the sarcasm... The point is B.. that I fully understand its not you.. You really are not an abuser at all with those stats, Getting close but still.

Its everyone that does this.. Add them all together and well, we have a HUGE problem. Take 2 gigs here, 40 gigs there, 3 gigs from mr X.. Before you know it.. you have 2 terrabytes of Data that is just being "stolen"...

Which is why I can see why Telkom are doing what they are .. I hate it more than I hate P2P... But I can understand it.. If I was them.. I think I'd be doing the same. The way they are doing it though.. is worse than the people who are abusing the system, There are faults in the system that people (like you) are using to their advantage, and 99% of the rest of us are going to suffer from it. Telkom could easily sort the loop holes out, but its the old schoolyard tactics. Since you cant legally punish one person.. You keep the whole class in after school for dentention!

So thanks to everyone for adding to the problem instead of trying to sort it out for us all

My Dad drives a BMW. Well My dad drives a Merc and it goes faster... Thats Nothing MY DAD.. BLAH... school kids.

Its the same crap month after month after month after... See how boring it gets. Bottom line is its all adding to the problem and those of us that dont do it, are going to be affected just like those who do. So again I'll say thanks!
