I Am Confused/Worried...

Ok, I am having some problems with my PC at home and some of my friends say it might be HDD related.

I have to HDD'S a Western Digital & a Seagate, both 500GB each.

On the first one I have Windows XP home loaded. I re-installed it last week and this morning when I wanted to go in it gives a blue screen and then reboots (It's too fast for me to see what the blue screen reads)

On the second one I have Windows 7 RC 32bit loaded. Now on this one, which I also reloaded last week, some of the programs that worked before, now does not work. examples ... :

Spider Solitaire :o ... It takes forever to load and then it just pops up a window that says the program is not responding
DVD Shrink ... Double click and nothing happens
Daemon Tools... Used to work, but now when I try to install it says "Internal Error : 256"
AVG... It installs but keeps giving an error that it cannot update virus database

I ran a Chkdsk on the HDD with XP on it last night from mini windows and all came back ok. Tonight I will do the Windows 7 HDD.

Now my question is... is it possible that it might be the HDD's busy conking out, but I find this hard to believe that BOTH HDD's can be on the way out :eek:.

PS. Seagate HDD I swopped out in May this year (the initial one broke). The Western Digital I bought brand new about May this year as well.
 
Hi Xen

Maybe unplug one drive and just boot with the other. Maybe Win 7 is trying to access the other drive and it has errors and giving you slow response.

This is off topic, cause I can't help you with anything your hard drive probs. You can make Windows (XP at least) not reboot by pressing F8 before it starts loading and choosing the 'Don't reboot on errors' (or something like that) option.
 
Did you change any SATA BIOS settings? XP will blue screen but Windows 7 can still boot, though with heavy performance problems.
 
You might have had Legacy SATA enabled, and disabled it or vice versa. Same with AHCI or NCQ?
Depends on your BIOS. You could try reset to default settings as well...
 
Need to get the XP BSOD error. Try F8 and select the option to not reboot on failure as mentioned above....
