I was really looking forward for so many months to go to Cellc but I am getting a rude awakening.
The thing just dies at random. I am getting 95% signal strength and the light is Cyan but if I go to statistics in the Cellc app it spikes and dies.
I am tired of clicking try again on my webpages.
Are they still sorting out problems?
If not I am close to taking it back.
This post is made via Vodacom and using tethering on my iphone.
I am in Centurion and in the middle of HSPA+ according to CellC coverage map.

my advice is to stick with it and somehow contact cell c to report your issue. perhaps your speed stick is faulty? i have had a few issues with it occasionally going to edge, but for the most part i have got excellent speeds and a very stable connection.

There are a few dead spots within the coverage areas. They will sort them out soon I'm sure. Stick with it. It takes quite a lot to build a new network from scratch.
That's why we got it at such a good price. We are the guinea pigs.

Thanks,
will hold out and use my Vodacom if I get too frustrated.

TECHNICAL

call cell-c and demand 2 get a technician to come to your place.

I'm also having problems:

Friday (bought the 5gb modem): Full signal, however disconnects all the time, couldn't download xbox live update because of constant disconnect.

Saturday: Constant disconnects, signal idles. Around 11 O clock it started working and I played xbox live straight till 3am with no problems..

Sunday: Worked till about 12, and then started disconnecting. And now I have no hspa+ signal, only the green light of edge. I just tried it at work now, closer to the tower, and it's still full edge. No 3g or hspa+.

If I use that MDMA program and set it to only 3g. The RAT picks up 3g, and the signal is -81dbm. But Lac and Rnc-id, and cell id show nothing...

I don't know what that means though.

The area here is so red on the coverage map that I'm slightly worried about turning into the hulk.

Have a look through this thread, use the method in wndrbees' post to manually select the Cell-C network, also make sure that the band is set to 'All Bands'.

If you want to try setting the modem to '3G Only' in MDMA again, make sure you are using the new beta version linked to in the above thread.

But lac and rnc and all that show when its on edge... it is on Cell C, i've connected through it on edge... and I downloaded the latest version..

Sounds like you are either between towers or the victim of mobile tower breathing. I would get an external antenna.

Have popped them a mail. Lets see what there response are.

THANKYOU!! - I should have listened to my brother when he told me not to use dodgy programs (referring to mdma). wndrbees is really awesome.

They should have a Cell C FAQ page on myBB

The blue light is back!

You should check who the program author otherwise you might come down with a bad case of foot in mouth ;)

That's really strange... I haven't been having any problems with mine. Connection has been really stable.

Any responses? Mine was on EDGE the whole day yesterday. Tried manually switching to vodacom 3g and then back to Cell C. It worked, the blue light came on. It had a 97% signal strength. the download speed spiked to around 3mbps but then dropped..and switched to that WCDMA (or something like that) then the green light came back on???

Has anyone considered driving with your dongle plugged into a laptop to the closest 'very dark pink' areas shown on the coverage map.If your signal improves there's nothing wrong with your settings and all you'll have to do is wait till Jan for proper coverage.

Any idea why the software is not preset to connect to a 3G only network ? I hate watching the signal constantly switch between EDGE and 3G. It means i got to keep re-connecting... this is damn irritating.

MDMA will fix that.
