I am pissed off!! VW mororplan does (actually) work!@#$

VW motorplan??

So anyway, advice needed re motor plan.

I have a Golf 4 tdi 2004 (+ 2000 GTI, love Golfs). Got it at a good price last year. It has a motor plan to 100K km.

OK, problem is....

The last service I had was at +/- 88.5k km in June last year.

In the this month the OBC said I needed a service. Thankfully, so I thought, I had only 99k km on the clock. Very good I thought. Especially since the clutch was going.

Now there are some issues that I would appreciate feedback on.

1. It seems ABSA are sponsoring the motor plan??? They have refused to pay for the 105k km (99k km) service. This is due to the fact that 12 months have not passed??? (See copy of email from Barons Culemborg, CT) Surely when the OBC states it is time for the service it is due? Is there any action I can take to make them pay as THEIR (VW) product told me to take it for a service??

2. The shocks are shot. VW dealership tells me that they cannot tell if the shocks are "worn" unless they are leaking. I have to take it to Hi Q for a test. I do not mind this, except that Hi Q is 20m (Not joking here) from the dealer!!! WTF

3. There was some pulsating when braking, minor but discernable. The bugger told me it was ABS???? WTF I explained that this was my granny car and I did not drive it like the gti!! s**t, I think I know what ABS feels like. Seems they are replacing disks up front (see below). But still, what if my wife had of taken the car in????

Well the real question is why TF will they not honour the service motor plan?

Surely if the beautiful tdi needs a service it tell you?

Why should ABSA/VW renege on the motor plan when it actually falls under the service plan?

I was considering extending the motor plan but this effort is putting me off.

Sorry for rant, just a bit pissed/confused

Email from Barons:

AS DISCUSSED EARLIER ,ABSA WILL BE PAYING FOR THE COMPLETE CLUTCH REPLACEMENT ,THE FRONT DISC AND PADS AND REAR PADS ,HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE SERVICE CAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS NOT REACHED A 105000 KM AS YET AND ALSO 12 MONTHS HAS BEEN REACHED AS YET .

LAST SERVICE CARRIED OUT ON THE 28/06/2007

CURRENT DATE 06/05/2008

WE ARE CLOSE TO + - 53 DAYS EARLY

MANY THANKS VEENO

VW can be difficult ...

If they tell you that they will do your service at 105k km's , why not just do it then, at least you wont need to pay for it. Its not a major issue especially if your car is in good condition.

I thought the service was every x amount of km's or SIX months?

I thought the service was every x amount of km's or SIX months?

Every 15k km or 12 months.

Seems I am 53 days early for the service but the OBC called for the service, not me.

Motorplan runs out at 100k km. Now deciding whether to extend it?? No sure if its worth it.

Decisions decisions???

I think that VW is correct in not servicing the vehicle under motorplan - they proved that it is not due yet. Why the car indicates that it does is unusual - how does it know? Does it base this on the KM and time since it was last serviced (reset) or based on other things (sensors, etc).

The car indicator is probably warning you early (either a month or two or a few thousand km). What does the manual say?

I thought the service was every x amount of km's or SIX months?

I thought it was just every 15000km's, and had nothing to do with the number of months.

With my golf 4 they forgot to reset it after a service, so I did it myself with the help of the internet, I think its based on km's from the previous service....

If thats the case, then check when it was last serviced, and add 15,000 to that :)

Doesn't the car service light come on 1000km before the service?

Nah, now they also say a number of months.... just so they can get a guaranteed cash flow if you ask me.

I ignore the months thing... I only go on KMs... I'm actually getting to the stage where after warranty I'd rather service the car myself... at least then its done properly.... althoughI don't think they're going to like me turning the basement at my complex into a garage :p

fixed it for you... :p :D

Classic, at least made me laugh.

Update, just collected the car. Service adviser Veenothan Naidoo was very professional and helpful. Hats off to him.

Bill for "ABSA" was R14.5k, ouch.

Driving the car home I notice something missing???

Then I realise there is not turbo whine????

Not pull up the hills???

****, no turbo???

Popped into the dealership when picking up the wife from work and mentions this.

Again Veenothan was a model pro.

So back it goes in the morning to see if the turbo needs replacing???? Not sure how this could pop whilst sitting there getting serviced.

If it is gone, "don't worry, we'll get ABSA to pay for a new one for you"!!!!!! :o(don't like ABSA, closed al my accounts with them 18 months ago so this is some payback)

I wonder if these dealerships are onto something here to increase revenue flows??

All very strange, will let you know how it pans out.

Good motivation for extending the motorplan, seems dealer scores twice here.

lol, you take the car to VW for one problem, they create a few more. Whats new ...

Me too. Do they finance these motorplans???

Anyone know.

I would say yes, I took my car in for a service two days ago and its under automotion and they asked me who it was financed under (the automotion).... obviously i had no clue what he was on about and told him i bought the car with a 60K automotion and thats all i know so it should be covered for the 45k. He did some keyboard tricks and it poped up it was through ABSA. I have nothing to do with ABSA so it must be VW financing it or something

:

At least they paid for ur clutch... i bought an extended warranty on my 01G4GTI and they said it was a wear and tear item... 15k to fix... bye bye G4GTI... Advice: dont buy an extended warranty through MSI!!

Super rant

Yah got ripped on my first car back in SA, GSI 16v never trust then (was a great car a speeds mind you)

OK, Super rant and feedback requested:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Now I am ready to name and shame. Barons Culemburg.

My car is now getting a new turbo, when I personally did not believe it was necessary when I dropped it off.

After a few days of wrangling with ABSA/VW, parts approved (+- 25k)

Now I don't really mind ABSA getting ripped off as they did it to all of us when we used to bank with them.

So, somewhere/someone in this particular workshop has no clue...or is stealing!!!

I think its stealing.

Here's the case

My car has Fooked turbo after 36hrs??? Due to EGR valve being dirty. Did a lot of research and this is a degenerative process, not on/off.

So, where's my original turbo??

Next case study.

My sister takes here 4 GTI to the same place for a broken window mechanism yesterday. (I begged her not to go to here, and take it to usual services (Vigalletis (SP)) that took care of here 89 GTS for 12 years without hiccup and does here regular services.

So, since she is getting married on Saturday, time is of the essences. They help her out and "find" a part for +1.7k to save her costs and fix it.

Hmmmm. Thought these units where only sold as a complete unit by VW, please comment.

She picks up the GTI, starts driving it home, OBC screaming that there is problem with coolant fluids???

So back it goes this morning first thing. Hmmmm, water pump fooked. Yes I know its prob and should be replaced regardless at 120k service as precaution. (94k on odo)

But.. surely they switched the ignition on to test the "new" window mechanism the obc would scream at them hence quick VAG??? I assume this is standard practice???

So, a few threats later by her, R1.7k for water pump ex labour????

So here we have our facts

1. My TDI goes in for cluth/brakes & minor service 10 days ago, come back with no turbo boost at all. No Vag, not start vehicle, no test drive to diagnose I need a new turbo???? (surely VAG would have picked this up in service, please comment) (see above for their diagnosis techniques)

2. My sis takes her GTI for window mechanism replacement yesterday (one assumes not driven to do this work) but now the water pump is on/off broken????

Please can someone forward me the ombudsman for vehicles/servicing.

This wayyyy tooooo much to take.

One would have thought they would have the brains to not rip off a surname that only has 2 listed numbers in the country FFS.

So in conclusion, I will be taking this as far as I can take it, I do not mind as I feel that this needs to be exposed ASAP for the good of the general VW/public community.

If anyone has had similar experiences with this d(st)ealership, please contact me as I am MAD & will be chasing this issue with a vengance.

Sorry for the rant guys and gals, I just hate being ripped off & I have a business that is trying to stamp this out in SA and expose overpricing.

Shoo, dealer principle is having a meeting tomorrow.

If there is anyone you know that has had similar issues please get hold of me via PM.

Many thanks for any feedback

There is actually good reasoning for this. The oil degrades and starts breaking down. So even if its not a full service at least change the oil if you haven't hit the km's required.

I bet you wont be impressed if the motor breaks because the oil isn't doing its job.

Oh how I can relate to all this with my BMW problems. The less times I take it in for work, the less problems I have.

I think the underlying problem is not the car or the make, but justthe country we live in. Thieves and rogues everywhere.

Nope it comes down to training. These new age mechanics cannot fault find if their lives depended on it. If the computer says its stuffed then its stuffed. Never mind trying to see if there is a loose wire or somehow something is causing an incorrect diagnosis. My buddy had a BMW gulping fuel and the BMW computer said all is well so the workshop told him he's imagining things. He took it to a guy his dad knew and the dude found that the airflow meter was sticky. He traced the fault with a CO meter and a multimeter (analog nogal).

I experienced this type of shoddy fault finding at an auto electrician. My bakkie had an intermittant starting prob. The auto elect looked around and said replace the imobiliser +-R1400 (factory unit). I didn't believe he could get to that conclusion with the amount of time he spent fault finding (all of 10 min). I took it to a family friend (retired auto elec, alarm specialist) and he traced it back to a intermittant started relay (R50).
