I am using ADSLUncapped now. Ask me anything ...

How fast the international bandwidth is.

Oh and ping local game servers please - I haven't yet heard from the Web Africa testers what local pings are.

OK give me till tonight to guage the performance. But international torrents are like 30-40K on my 384 line already which is lekker.

That is very good, I'm pleased to hear that. I'm thinking of getting the Web Africa/UUNET offer - it is the cheapest and it is from a reliable source. If the local pings 90< then I wouldn't be pleased..I'm used to 40 which is perfect :)

I am STILL waiting for Telkom to install my blasted line. How long does it normaly take?
Have been waiting now for almost 4 weeks!!!

How do they get those little ships into bottles?

the glass is blown around the ship once it has been built... it takes skill.

OK here are my findings so far:

P2P:
International torrents: Line saturates ... full speed.
Local torrents: Haven’t bothered too test.

Http downloads:
International:
Seems to be limited to about 4-6K
Tested on: www.kernel.org, www.winzip.com
I don’t understand this and I strongly suspect I have somehow cocked up my settings somehow. Still investigating ... so take my http download results with a shovel full of salt. Other UUNET uncapped users report full speeds! Edit: I get 25K on the Telkom speed test ... woah! :confused: Edit2: Telkom speed test on capped Telkom ADSL account: 43.8K
Edit3: Ok it looks like uunet limits the maximum speed on any single HTTP download thread. Using a multi-segment downloader I can saturate the line i.e. 40K. Telkom doesnt limit the maximum speed of single HTTP download threads.

Local:
Tested on: tucows.saix.net (yes yes ... I know!) and ftp.uunet.co.za ... same story about 6 K.

Pings:
As I currently have a (capped) telkom ADSL account and the UUNET uncapped account I was able to do direct ping comparisons:

MWEB servers (fscking traitors to ZA gaming ... gah ... spit):
UUNET account:
karoo.mweb.co.za

WOW ... that looks like a damn good international ping to me :)

SAIX account:
cs.jolt.co.uk ... cant test .. capped

SAIX servers:
UUNET account:
sgs1.saix.net
Ping statistics for 196.43.3.36:

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 30ms, Average = 16ms

I couldn’t ping any of the PTA SAIX servers? :confused:

Note: I'm in Cape Town.

Other issues:
slimothy: Lets compare what iBurst and UUNET charges for uncapped access on 1 April. I doubt I will be the one who is embarrassed.

arf9999: http://www.hobbyplace.com/woodmodels/shipinbotl.html

m0zy: As long as they feel like taking.

len: Ag shampies ...

Harth your peak ping spikes on uunet seems bit off course :-)

Quick comparison:

uunet:
saix.net = 58ms
karoo.mweb.co.za = 63ms
kalahari.mweb.co.za = 28ms (understandable since this is pretty much where it peers)
