At Hyundai Hillcrest. An Atos (drives pretty well, a bit weak on the power but enough for daily commuting the kids to school and grocery shopping with the occasional monthly voyage to visit my folks in Durban North).

They gave us this "deal" which I feel suspicious about.

They offered us a CASH deal, where if we bought this car we get cash back. Now, this is from an official HYUNDAI dealership to my knowledge so it's got to be legit, right?

R10 000 cash back.

This did not happen. It was then purported seemingly as if we did not have a choice, where creatively the choice was put in our hands to "buy" a lower interest rate, where the story is that they keep the money to pay directly to the bank, and, well, pay back a lower total car-loan amount.

This is what my wife reported back to me (with my own interpretations added to the story) while I was at work and she went out and chose the car. So ya, very disappointed to not get that cash..

I decided to phone the branch manager and he says it was legit, he didn't have "proof" of payment to the bank for such a deal and convincingly said that I would have saved money "buying" a lower interest rate. He didn't give figures how much I saved, just a confident "ya you save more money this way".

The whole thing stinks like rotten fish.

Does anyone have experience with the above?

*edit - from hippo, which I assume is what could have happened with the Atos:

Get cash back

If your vehicle’s current market value is higher than your outstanding credit balance, you can get cash back.

Dealers Stealers always wins, welcome to life, and sorry to hear about your ordeal. Life Lesson

Honestly with a name brand like Hyundai I expect honesty and transparency in car dealings. I understand the expense of the car and accept that, but not when it comes to internal dealings with customers through proxies

I'm still suspicious but also open to truthful insight.

They are supposed to give you the Cash. Thats what they promised or take the car back under the CPA.

Lower interest rate, he is talking totally k-k

Cash back is part of their promise.

I will Call Hyundai head office and ask them what is going on, otherwise you are returning the car.

Whenever a 'deal' of any sort is offered, the you can be sure that it is for their benefit to not yours.. Else it would not be offered.. Yes always.. And so it is always your job to work out how you will lose.
But you as a consumer have a 7 day period to cancel the sale.. Specially if you've been defrauded.. So move fast.. See a lawyer and sort it..

We got a 50k cash back deal when we bought our BMW. When they realized we are paying cash, they seemed a bit hesitant but they honored it and gave us a 50k “discount” on the total prize. Was a good deal.

My uncle had the same deal applied when he bought a couple months after.

What the DP is describing makes sense, but without any paperwork to back that up, seems a bit fishy.

Did they not offer you either the cash back or a lower instalment? Looking at the adverts, it should have been your choice to choose one or the other.

Seems like its only applicable to the 1.1 Motion MT ?
