I bought a Chromecast

I used to stream content to my tv using a chromecast.
We recently moved to a new house where there is a projector. Cables for hdmi and surround sound are running through the wall and ceiling. However, I do not currently have any sound or home theatre system.
I am thinking to get a relatively inexpensive home theatre system with hdmi input and hdmi+surround sound output. Would it work if I plug the chromecast into the hdmi in and the hdmi out to the projector with audtio to the speakers?
Is there a better alternative to connect the chromecast to the projecter?

Anyone with chromecast/projector experience who can offer advice?

The first sucks.

It's k@k

Looks I love the plex, youtube combo but it's terribly sluggish and fails under continues use.

Have anyone here tested the 2nd Gen, who has also owned a first gen?

I'm not interested in the opinion of first time users

I have owned both and I personally don't notice any difference. I use it mainly for Youtube and DSTV Now.

Time for an upgrade, where in Bellville/Cape Town can one buy the Chromecast Ultra

I have the first, and now a mi box . Don't really see much difference in the cast functionality. My TV also can mirror, and my fire TV box but don't have as widespread support in apps

It's a solid device, and I have had it for years. App support has improved significantly in that time.

Chromecast 2nd gen first time user also and have it for more than half a year now. It's great for projecting anything from the phone or laptop or desktop to the non smart TV in my home. My wife loves it and uses it mainly for YouTube music.

Chromecast seems to be just one of those devices that will continue receiving software support and updates for a few more years plus it's small and really easy to get used to. I don't have the money to waste on new 4K capable hardware and the normal 2.4Ghz is still the defacto wifi to use in lots of scenarios so it's all good for now. :)

So I am considering getting a Chromecast 2nd Gen (good pricing currently) ... is it worth it for streaming content like Youtube from mobile devices, or should I rather look at an Android type media device?

I have both the first and second gen chromecast. Use them for streaming Plex, YouTube, Netflix, even DSTV now. Handles everything without issues. Use mine every single day. Worth every cent.

Thanks for the feedback. Will seriously consider it

^, the Chromecast is useful for a lot of other apps beyond common apps like Youtube . I smile whenever I open an app and am greeted with the cast button

Considered getting one recently but ended up getting a Xiaomi Mi TV Box instead. You can cast to it as well, so it seemed a bit of a no-brainer for the price.
