I broke my PC... sort of.

My friend played with some well known partitioning program and now his 160GB harddrive reports as 100MB but you can still see everything and all that, I did warn him, but NOOOOOOO!
 
If you need to make partitions do it through the windows setup process, I'm wary of the progs that do it in windiws. If you have to do it in windows use norton partition magic.
 
Ah, I have used Gparted quite a few times, it can seriously mess up your system. When you used it did you select resise your partion?

If yes did you then create another partion in the newly formed free space?

which is why i never just use any old app to perform serious operations. i use the brands that are reliable. i used partition magic 8 and it works like a charm.
 
From what I know, if the NTFS system is damaged, then the boot CD won't offer the option of a repair.

In future, get another hard disc, boot up using Knoppix live CD, and use the dd (disc duplicate) facility in the console to make either a binary or file copy of your NTFS partition, and then mess around with the partition. This is how I rescued a broken NTFS system.

I installed a Linux partition and then XP wouldn't boot - just showed smiley face binary garbage. Fixboot and fixmbr didn't work. I made a binary copy of the NTFS partition, reformatted the partition, and then copied the binary image back onto the new partition using dd and Knoppix, and I was back in business. Things were exactly the way they were before.

Sounds like you need to format your Windows Partion!
