I'm in Cape Town and I get my internet through Mweb. My problems started when Telkom last week had outages. Since then all 4 pcs on my home network can't access any websites. I've now hardwired my laptop into the ADSL modem to try and work out what the problem is. I've spent an hour on the phone with Mweb but they've exhausted their list of fixes.. and the problem still remains. They can view when the modem is switchen on and off so the line is active.
I can ping IP addresses but can not view websites. I can do a telnet ie: telnet www.google.com 80 and that works. I have disabled my firewall and antivirus, rebooted. I've also added in DNS servers in TCP/IP as instructed by Mweb but to no avail.
The other odd thing is that my Skype works! FTP doesn't however. So there is some communication. I've also put firefox in safe mode, nothing. I've also run my pc in safe mode, nothing. My housemates are in the same situation so it is unlikely that there is anything wrong with my laptop.
Could the Telkom 5100 ADSL modem be dodgy?
ps - I'm currently connected to the net via my cellphone to log this problem ;-) Any help is greatly appreciated!
