Provide more details. What was your previous plan? Some tariffs are promotional and an offer has expired.

Is it related to the whole 8ta / Telkom Mobile rebranding thingy?

Yip, some provisioning on the SIM card is not reversible. I am currently PSB Data Promo plan (using 2+1GB), it has been provisioned non-roaming before 8ta-only data plans became available for normal SIMs. There is no return to roaming. These is no option to change plan.

It might be stupid. :)

I think it has been programmed on the SIM in write-once area, so this settings cannot be changed. They say it cannot be changed, I believe them. If they had two different tariffs for such devices, you could change (as user tariff information is stored on their computers), but there is only one tariff, therefore it can't be changed.

Two things: Firstly, 8ta more no longer exists, which is why all new customers are being moved over to the new tariff plans. Existing customers can stay on 8ta more for now, but will eventually all be made to move over too because they are phasing it out completely.

Secondly, I've been in the USSD menu for changing your tariff plan. They give you a very clear warning message that if you change your tariff plan you cannot go back to 8ta more, with additional confirmation required that you want to continue. Now I'm not saying that you didn't do it accidentally, you could have finger-troubled or simply not have been paying attention, but the fact remains that they give a very clear warning.

There is unfortunately no way to go back.

It actually does make sense. More allows roaming but this means promotional offerings are not feasible. If you move over to the promotional tariff you lose your extra airtime because you can already take advantage of promotions. If they allow you to move back to 8ta more you would be able to use the promotional offerings with roaming.
