HP Pavillion DV6000 consumer notebook (cr@p don't ever buy one)

Serial ATA HDD, no place in bios to take out the enhanced mode or whatever it is and put into native or whatever. Been through the bios once then 100 times!

OS says "no hdd or mass storage etc bla bla bla" detected, F3 to reboot.

Got the SATA drivers for XP off website, slipstreamed with Nlight to cd with OS - not a hell!.

Wants F6 floppy. No floppy (obviously) and I don't have a external floppy.
A quick check of the driver files = no NT OEM .txt file in anycase so wouldn't even work if i had one.

WTF? is this the first Vista only useless notebook?

Any ideas? I have a sata to usb cradel -bios sees USB hdd - install on usb and change boot.ini or something?
Thanks

Isn't there a way to assign a flash drive in the floppy controller options in the BIOS?

That's about all I can think of ;)

Thanks, but it won't help even if i could because all the drivers are windows .inf files - no NT OEM manufacturer.txt file........

I had the same problem on a Pavillion.
I went so far as to email HP, you want to know their response?
They said we did not design it for XP and have no plans to release any drivers to make it possible to install anything but Vista.

Nice.....

This dumb HP .exe file. It asks for "insert floppy disk now" and will not go any further. I have 10 machines here none with a floppy.

I tried SUBST A: C:\whatever - doesn't work. How can I fake it? I just want the files to slipstream.

@Havoc - i doubt sp3 will have drivers but will try, but running out of cd's tonight.

ivork, put a link on the thread to these drivers you are talking about please. (the dumb exe files will do fine)

i normally open them with "winimage" and just extract the files directly.

On the spot Werner. Winimage did the trick. Extracted from the exe, slipstreamed in nlight like a dream. :D

(Botched it the first time selecting the default "plug & play" instead of text)
Found one last cd luckily.

Busy installing - going to bed happy. Thanks people.
Wot's with HP and extracting to a floppy? wtf, who has floppies anymore? What is so hard about giving us the frikking files to slip in the first place?
2 Hours wasted on such a simple thing - install xp (upgrade) on a buddies new notebook, on a Friday night!

I have an external floppy drive if you want to borrow it... but I am south of Joburg... too far away from you.

Update

Well the XP install was a breeze (TX Werner) – then came the drivers….

This stupid hi-fi corp special machine wasted my whole Sunday movie time.. Vendor specific se foet – nothing!

Jack from HP.
Intel for the GM965 mobile chipset update (HP says Nvidia)
Intel for the display adaptor
Realtek for the 8139 NIC
Motorola for the SM56 modem
Realtek for the HD audio device
Generic HP quick-launch buttons for the last “unknown device”.

All of it completely contradictory to what HP says – they want you to install a Nvidia chipset!!!!!

On top of screen says DV6000
Undernieth Product says DV6500
Below that, service tag says DV6620ei
WTF! And all info and drivers on hp site are wrong!

Don’t ever buy these grey market machines from hi-fi corp if you need support! me not doing again! took 5 hours to get this thing to work with xp.

I guess it's good to say, glad you got it working. I don't see why you needed to remove Vista though?

Making a lot of work for yourself ;) Vista with Sp1 is a breeze on a laptop, as the service pack has a lot of enhanced tweaks/hotfixes specifically for laptops ;)

I had the same issue with a dv9000 pavillion and I just integrated XP sp3 and the motherboard drivers on the disc using "nlite", worked perfectly. As for Vista, it sucks, using almost 1 gig of ram on idle. :( XP is much faster.

What model was this because im calling BS on this.

Vista and XP are very similar and i would imagine what you can install on xp you can install on vista.

I have had similar experiences with other HP products.

IMHO HP is going to the dogs. Their printer drivers of late are the biggest pieces of bloatware I ever did see.

Stiffy drives are so outdated.

Don't know why support's still offered for them even though the newer PC's (and laptops/notebooks) come out without stiffy drives

I can remember the days when it was hot to have a 1.44Mb stiffy drive on your system...

It's not BS.

I've had a Packard Bell notebook which I reverted to Vista after a "anti vista" fan loaded XP on it. They didn't even take the time to see if Xp drivers were available. PB just didn't develop any XP drivers for the system and they don't plan to either.

Long story short, the owner of the laptop is very pleased, it does what he needs and after I explained to him why Vista isn't so bad, he is loving it.

My dad is bringing his laptop to me sometime next week, same story, he hates Vista because he has to click "continue" for every program (UAC) I just lol'd and said bring it to me :p I'll load SP1 on it too.

I tried installing SP1 on my laptop about 3 times off a disk and it failed:(. I just gave up after that.

Yea off a disk, download it via the update program.

Tera what notebook was this exactly? I still don't believe they don't make drivers for it.

Search the error code or whatever it tells you.

I've found that you need certain updates before installing it ;)
