So ultimately im asking if anything would have had a "knock on" or negative effect (specifically PC)

But i got a surge protector and without thinking i did the following:
a) Plugged it into the multiplug with my PC's extension in which goes to my inverter
b) Inverter was on at the time.
c) Surge protector made a random sparking sound and then whatever was plugged into it, would not switch on.
d) I unplugged it and replugged and it was fine (then realized... its not mean to be plugged into a) inverter and rather (wall)

Yup never put the surge protector into the inverter :-)

It could pop the inverter

Inverter still working, but i was more concerned about the Computers..
As long as someone can say "ye PC's should be 100% fine" im happy with that.

Namely because of that initial spark and then there was no power to computers until i pulled it out and in again.

Didnt see anything, only heard it, no smell either but didnt specifically smell it either.
Only "effect" was the random bzzz sound and then the odd... "no power to the stuff plugged into the surge protector" intially

PC should be okay, but generally you want to protect from the wall, as plugging it into the inverter will just take the surge if there is one anyway

ye I kinda knew that, i dont know my brain wasn't braining at the time... my only thought was "hey i can use this as a multiplug" then 30 seconds later realized the mistake.

Was it a multiplug surge protector or ellies big red one styled? Generally the multiplug ones are okay

Seems it was more the MSW inverters not the PSW

But what would be the problem with plugging it on the output, do you perhaps know what the theory is, because to the layman it doesn't sound that bad.

Is it the modified output on those type of inverters or is it still a problem if you plug it on a pure sine wave inverter?

I have a cheapo surge protector at the wall, have my off-line UPS plugged into that, then I have a APC surge-protecting multiplug getting power from the UPS, with my computer getting power from it. Been running it like this for years without issue.

Don't think it effects PSW I linked to @AlphaJohn description in the Mecer thread

Mine is also modified sine wave.

Read this is that thread you posted:
"Edit: Just to clarify on em Ellis plug, they send surges down the G wire ie: create a short. SO do not use them when powering from battery."
But ye did exactly that. Im hopinggggggg --- worst case scenario that happened... It tripped the surge protector and that was the end of it... and not passing any current through the surge protector to PC.

@AlphaJohn can you please clarify if this issue only effects Modified sine wave inverters? It's the first time that I've heard of this issue.
